I was looking for low cost luggage rack for my RG. I have the detachable back rest, but the rack can be "permanent"....I guess I'm having a had time spending over $200 for the Harley rack...

Thanks,

Burch

Yep. That's about it.
I bought the Detachable Rack and bolted a GIVI Monokey mounting plate to it. Then the GIVI topbox is quickly detachable without having to remove the full rack. I only do that when working on the bike or riding solo.
The S.O. wants a Tour Pak but luckily the cost and the 45lb weight increase has won my argument against buying one!
And thank you for the post called 'weight' from 08ultra103 which is how I found out how much the Tour Pak weighs. It would have played havoc with my weight reduction plans.  (the radio and speakers get removed in a few months time) Now, if I can persuade her to lose 20 or 30lbs....

Harley makes a 'luggage rack' that attaches to thier detachable backrest.  Had mine for about 4 years now but as I recall, it was only around $70 - $90.  Works great and looks for the most part like its all one unit.  The current unit is 53011-98 which retails for almost $200 - like you noted in your post.  Keep an eye on ebay - might find it cheaper.
We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.
