In NYS trucks are not allowed on Pkwy.
Historic Taconic State Pkwy is well trafficked by motorcycles and it is a pleasant ride with safe bends and turns and short strait aways. Beautiful countryside and a several places to have lunch where riders are always welcome. Usually, speed limits are strictly enforced, so just enjoy the ride and the scenery.
Taconic parkway is a road with 3 different names. Same road is called Bronx River Pkwy in the city. The road split to the Sprain Brook and finally the same road becomes Taconic Pkwy.

Watch your speed and watch for the deer!! couple of close calls with the deer who seem to like standing in the middle of the road just after a turn.

+2 on the deer.  I used to use the Taconic when commuting from Mass to Ulster County NY.  You pass a big bloody smear about every 300 feet.

Lived here most of my life, 1979 I left for Arizona came back in 1982 before I left in 79 I got ran off the taconic by a bimbo in an little red MG, came back to new york and in 1986 got hit by a toyota on the pkwy, you know I always watch out for deer and never ran into one or had one run into me, but the damn cage drivers are killing us one by one, imo watch for the cagers there the dangerous ones

Years ago I lived in NYC..Loved to take the old Ironhead up the Taconic..There's a major state park about an hour and a half from the city, Fahnstark State Park ..used to be great for camping...anyone else remember when the Taconic started at Hawthorn Circle?

 A little story: six of us (3 bikes) were heading to NH (from NC) for a few days and were making our way thru Newburg, NY (stopped in at OCC). At a little deli we asked the cashier (a lady in her late 40s) if the T. Parkway would be a good way to get to Vermont. She drew herself up and said no, it's a terrible road, curvy etc. Well, we went on it anyway and it was a GREAT MOTORCYCLE road. You can actually ride it most of the eastern side of NY. Ride it and enjoy it. We thought of it as a 4 lane Blue Ridge Parkway.

I've been doing a fairly lengthy commute the last year or so. About 40 miles of that commute is on the Taconic. The road is as nice a highway as you can find, but there are a couple issues. IF you are running it around morning or afternoon commute times, the traffic is bad. For a narrow laned highway with no shoulders and short onramps as well as crossroads, the locals drive very aggressively. It's a 55mph road the whole way, but most commuter traffic is running 65-70 with the occassional person flat out flying down it. There are a lot of cops on it as well. I have passed quite a few of them doing 10 over the speed limit, and not been popped. I did get a ticket a few years back on it doing 70. The commuter traffic starts picking up around Poughkeepsie heading south, and gets worse the farther south you go.
Outside of commuter hours, it is a very nice road to ride - with an eye out for deer and the occassional branch in the road. Also if riding it in the rain, know it was never built to drain water worth a damn, and you will find a lot of deep standing water as rains get heavy.
Here's to the ones serving to keep me free, and to them no longer here with me.

TSP is a beautiful road, but as warned, the cops, cagers and deer are everywhere, the deer are especially fun after dark when they congregate on the center median.  Long curve or straight away and all you see is beady eyes reflecting off the road.  Take is slow, watch for 2 and 4-legged animals and you'll be okay.
