what's the max you dare go?   thanks

.575 seems to be the general standard.
It must be true,I read it on the internet.

the springs,as far as coilbind will accept that lift, but spring pressure wont.put a set of springs in

Would a Wood TW-5-6 bolt-in to a factory 103? 0.575" lift.

I have done many and some have accumulated high miles. I typically at least blueprint the heads and shim the spring up to 145# seat pressure. That is a real fun bagger motor as they rev fast and are at 100TQ at ~2,200 rpm.

i would put some springs in,160lbs on the seat if your going to be wickin it up

The Wood TW5 is done for the most part in these late models at 5,500.
Have not seen the need as these lighter valves (7mm) just don't need it, no disrespect, just my opinion and IME. The stock springs work better than they should. When longer cams are used I go right to AV&V or Woods for springs and pressure goes up appropriately.

I like the numbers on the TW5. Would the TW555 be better for just a bolt in with a lower lift of .555 instead of the .575? or should they be shimmed or respringed too?

The cams are a bit like splitting hairs. The 555 will peak HP better and come on a few hundred rpm later. Very subtle differance not huge and compression being equal, corrected for cam.
They are close to each other.
Mr Wood himself will tell you "the TW555 is a bolt-in with no spring change needed" He will not say that about the TW5 however my testing has proven otherwise.
I have been saying the 5 works fine with stock springs for a long time and at the time there were many naysayers but it is old news now. I see Mike Stegman recommends the same with stock or Baisley heads when the 7mm valves are being used.

How would the 5 do with stock compression? What would be optimal CR?

Lots of talk about cam lift vs springs, don,t forget retainer to stem seal, valve to valve and valve to piston.  Andrews Products has some great info on what and where to check.
