Som in a 116" i currently run a vh pro pipe hs with comp baffle, was looking at the short bassani road rage , the road rage has the stepped header versus the VH does not, looking for some opinions on bassani ,

1. how does it sound
2. how is the fit and finish with heat shields
3. will i loose or gain with the short road rage over the pro pipe.

Pro Pipe HO is stepped.  Has a great sound and makes really good HP and Torque numbers.

I run a Road Rage on my 103" bagger (so it's not a short one). As for your questions:

1. The sound is why I chose this pipe. I love it. It has a very nice growl to it
2. Fit sucks IMO. Rear pipe wants to rest on the cylinder, muffler doesn't want to line up with bracket, trans bracket Bassani sent wouldn't work. These may not be issues you face with a softail pipe. I run the black version of the pipe and the factory finish sucked. I had it replaced under warranty (which took 3 months to get replaced) and then immediately sent the new pipe to HPC to get it coated. I don't run heat shields yet, but they are next on my list for the money tree.
3. I'm not qualified to comment on this.

Based on the above review, I would opt for the HO Propipe for its quality fit and finish....unless you are wanting a bit more low end torque below 2500 rpm...then the Bassani is your best option.

PS - The Propipe competition baffle has not shown it is worth the reduction in low end torque over the std baffle in what is realized in top end power.

Can vouch for the power increases with the Propipe. It works very well and the fit and finish are 1st class.  Fact is, it's so loud, I'm replacing it with someone's True Duals this winter.  It's been a love/hate relationship since installing it.

No louder than the Roadrage, Fatcat, Rinehart 2into1, Thunderheader. etc.
Only quiet performance pipe is the Supertrapp Supermeg, but it can be made loud if the open end cap is used.

I have Pro Pipe on my bagger, Road rage on my Rocker and wife has Rinehardt on her FatBoy. I've always been a V&H guy but I like the road Rage sound better. I had no problem with fit and finish on road Rage.

Build quality on V&H stuff has always been great. Personally, there is nothing Bassani makes that I care for.
Speed costs money. How fast do you want to spend?

I had the Road Rage short meg on my Deuce. The fit of the pipes themselves was great, but they sent the wrong heat shields. They replaced them free of charge with the correct ones. It sounds good for a 2 into 1. I say that because I can't stand most 2 into 1's. I had it for one season and then switched back to duals.
