Well... Finances may require me to cut back a bit on planned work with the winter mods (surprise, surprise). I have all the parts and I know I'll have the $$ for cam install/tune but wondering about the 1.725's? Would they be of any benefit in a stock 96" with the 204's and a good tune? Heck, I already have them. Still have 2 months to scrape up some $$ to get all the stuff done but just inquiring. January in Wisconsin, no heated garage, lack of some tools and mostly lack of confidence prevents me from tearing things apart myself. Thanks for the input...

Should work well, but that 204 needs a bit more squeeze to snap that engine to attention.

Yeah... That squeeze was the bigger picture with .030/head work. Still have couple/few months to save my coins but covering my bases. Not riding seaon till mid April.....

If you change the rockers that .030HG is only a few bolts away.

That's true.. If I stay with stock pushrods, they'd need to come off. I do have adjustable pushrods tho.....

troop,
Where in Wisconsin? I'm in Twin Lakes, which is right down by the Illinesian border, and I have all the tools as well as a heated garage. We do stuff around here on "the buddy system." If you're willing to get your hands dirty and do most of the work yourself, I'm more than happy to "supervise" and help out. If you're more interested in just having somebody do the work, I wouldn't be interested. The only thing I'd require is that you have a Factory Service Manual for your bike.

Troop doe you have your heart set on 204's I put a set of 48h's in my 96" with great results I got 90hp. and 100 ft.lbs.torq. At 2145rpm,s I gor 90 ft.lbs. torq. It goes up to 100 and doesn't reach 90 again until I get up to 4750rpms.It really makes for a great ride I can now turn the handle and pass cars with out dropping a gear or two.

  Ditto...love to read that kind of stuff.

If you already have those cams, then use them...they'll work fine, good actually.
But like Scott said, a little more compression would sure optimize the combination.
Without headwork the rockers won't do much, if anything. They won't do a lot with headwork.
But...you've got them so I'd use them...but I'd also beg, borrow, or steal the funds to step-up the heads a bit.
That's where the horsepower is and if your pulling them to put in the thinner gasket, well...
But if you can't, then installing the cams only is a good start and will provide a noticeable power increase without a lot of work.
And it will get your feet wet, as Dan has graciously offered you his assistance.
Man it don't get no better than that.

Let's not get all soft and mushy here, boys. I've gotten more than my fair share of help over the years here. It's only fair that I help another guy out when I can.
