my 03 RK has ran fine since I put on the fireball ht4c ignition 5 yrs ago, until Aug. It won't start up when it's cold (mornings) it will backfire out the pipes, and I have to crank on it a long time, before it starts, after it warms up it starts fine. I put the old stock ignition back and it fired up in 1 second, just like it used to.I called crane (now S & S) and talked to Mike the expert, he said he has never herd of this issue,he said crank sensor or low voltage would not cause this, has anyone ever had this problem before?

The problems I had with Hi 4's were the opposite. When they got hot, ran on 1 cyl. until I let it cool down.  :nix:
I would look at a different ignition.

If it runs good with the stock ignition then I would run it   :smiled:

I agree with 05,

If it starts easily with the stocker it's probably the module.. Flip side is that it could also be a weak battery / connection or the crank sensor.. Check the connections, try and jump from another battery.. You can load test the battery but I've not had much luck with that..

I would hope he put in a Hi 4 because the motor required a better curve than stock, along with an adjustable max rpm.

Check your connections from the battery to the starter.. Plus how old is your battery?  If the voltage drops below about 7v at the crane ignition shuts off.. The factory module, at least in the 01 model, shuts off at 5v.  Thats so you get a dead short in your stator and your voltage drops drastically the engine will shut down.  Thats what crane told me years ago when they were the original out of Florida.  Then check the CPS...

Another check is put your crane ignition on a buddy's bike and see if it has a problem.  Out of all the adjustables I likes the crane the best, especially in multi spark mode.. anyway I have gone to a S&S IST.

when I talked to Mike at S&S I asked him about low voltage, he said since the old one started it fine, that it should not be the problem, I also asked him about the CPS and he said the same.My battery is 5 years old, and it is starting to drag some. I personally think its either the battery , or dirty CPS, so I'll put this on the shelf until I do next oil change, then I'll replace battery and clean CPS

We replace stock ignition modules, why??????

Higher compression builds require a way to reduce the initial timing and curve, also delay the timing at startup cranking with the ability to extend the rev limit.
