Hey

Just put a wide glide front end on a 1995 sporty.  Going to use the wide glide headlight with bottom mount.  My question is,has anyone done this and what did they do with the big wiring connectors.  We are leaving the turn signals functional so need all the wires.  Any ideas on how to clean this up.

I removed the eyebrow and mounted a headlight from the lower triple-tree on my '93 Sporty.  Kept the wires for the turnsignals and all other controls on the handlebars as well.  I re-wired the whole thing and put one mega-connector under the tank, well it's not that big since it fits in the channel below the 2.25 gallon tank, but there are a bunch of pins in it.  Actually, I think I am using two connectors side-by-side there, taped together.  It was a chore routing, measuring, soldering etc. but the end-result make it very clean.  If memory serves correctly I am using Molex connectors that I bought in an electronics store.

I'll dig for some pics if you are interested.

I think I have four bunches of wires from the front - one contains the turnsignal wires, one contains the headlight wires, two contains the handlebar controls and indicator light wires.  These four bunches are routed inside the coil bracket and all converge into two connectors that are wiretied to the frame under/in the channel of the tank.  There are no connectors in the front other than these two.

These are the connectors for the front.  I didn't have to use all the pins and I tried spacing out the pins for the wires that carry the most amps, in case there was going to be an  issue with heat.

These are the connectors from the back they plug into.

It's been a while now, but I made the "loop" in heat-shrink tubing to allow cleaner separation of the wires to the handlebars/headlight/turnsignals.  I changed my bars a few times and it was a pain removing them and having to redo the wiring since everything was kind of cross-connected.  With this in place I can now unplug those two connectors and lift off the bars completely - clean and simple.  That "loop" is all wrapped in tape as you can see in th etop picture.

The connectors are completely hidden with the tank on.

You have done a great job with both your wiring and also documenting your work.  Thanks for the info.

Another question, did you shorten any wires or did you just pull the excess beck under the seat?

Thanks

It was a while ago but I am fairly certain that I cut all/most of the wires and some of the wires I re-wired all the way back.  There are no excess wires under the seat.
