Hello Folks,

Can I do a visual to see what the remaining pad life is left on the front (dual) and rear rotor(s) of my 98 road king?

The manual says to take them apart and measure them, but perhaps a visual will work.

Thx . . .

I just do a visual on mine. I'd only inspect with the caliper off if there was excessive squealing or chatter while braking.

I'd rather replace the pads prior to hearing them and doing damage to the rotors.

Not trying to be dumb, (seems to to be occurring more these days), but I did a visual on my 98 road king, front dual pads and rear, AND I was unable to clearly determine how much material was left on the brake pads.

Any suggestions to my dumb ?

Check the mileage you have on the pads, compare them to new and you can estimate how many more miles you can go before changing them.
The newer Brembro's seem to last longer than the earlier brakes. I let mine get to the thickness of a penny, then change them. (But, I'm cheap!)

Good suggestion, but I bought the bike used, with 29K, now 31K, seller had all the work done on time & correct, the tires were replaced at 25K, and no brake work was done at that time.

So with 31K miles on the bike now, I am not sure if they are the original pads or were previously replaced?

Probably OEM depending on riding style.

IMHO at 25.00 a set, I change them and pack the bearings every tire change.
