Im looking to buy a good touring bike for long hauls, mostly solo, but not all the time.My main concern is seat height,im only 5'7.I've sat on ultra classics & electra glides & they seem to tall. A new street glide was just right for me,but i dont like the twin cam engine. My question is:can a road king be lowered without sacrificing ride quality? Also could a tour pack be added?

My question is:

1. can a road king be lowered without sacrificing ride quality?

2. Also could a tour pack be added?

1. yes.  front springs and rear shocks can be switched out, and the ride quality will remain very similar to stock.  The thing that changes is the lean angle, so cornering clearance is affected.

2. yes.  The back ends are the same as the batwing bikes (at least on '97 and up touring bikes).

They lowered the seat hight on the 97 and up due to a frame change making them 1" lower. You could get a t 97 or 98 RK and have the lower seat hight with the Evo engine

yep fwiw- I'm only slightly taller, and I could touch mostly flat footed with my '02 RK.

I wear 30" length jeans and when I had my 96 RK I would have my feet slip out from under me from time to time. Since I have had the 99 RK I have not had any issues at all. Amazing what a difference an inch lower makes. If I knew then what I know now I would have bought a nice 97 or 98 RK and slipped an Ultima 113 in it and had one hell of a nice reliable, strong runin tourer.

I have a detachable tourpack on mine, HD docking kit is a direct bolt on and a Shovel tourpack that I purchased for $50, don't see $500-$600 for a part time unit.
Can't help you on the flatfoot dimensions, I'm 6'3" but I do have the rear lowered with Progressive shocks and one of the best things I've done, rear chased the tar snakes with old air shocks and stable with the Progressives.

I also wanted to add that I run a Corbin Hollywood solo seat and It is low, don't need it but it does look good with the windshield removed, you have alot of flexability with the RK and the 97-98 is more parts friendly (97-07) and some better changes were made.

Reddog's engine guy helped get my RK where I can run with the warmed up light bikes and alot of fun when a big bike and a large carcuss rider sneeks up on ya but I know I don't want to mess with his bike because of potential embarassment unless I pull a plug wire off without him seeing it
What's wrong with having the only Evo in the parking lot?
