had a lifters and had failures, had b lifters and different failures, used jims lifters and again failures

now using johnson lifter and sitting back and thinking or not thinking why are different lifters failing in different spots some where stuck up then different stuck down or some loose in the lifter bore. So before I start up this set i figure I would check everything.

the build jims 120
new cam plate
previous se oil pump, now feuling pump
kuryakyn 546g cam
screaming eagle heads new style 2010 heads
rockers and springs all checked with no problem

so why am I going thru an abnormal amount of lifters

what am I missing in my piece of this puzzle

Have you miked the lifter bores to be within spec and lifter to bore clearance good? Don't know what else to recommend.

Couldn't say for sure but wonder where the schrapnel went and how you cleaned it each time you lost one, May be the snowball effect.

moose

the lifters we always use on TC performance builds are from a shop out in fort worth texas, i know it sounds crazy to not go with a big name HD/Aftermarket lifter, but i heard about these from a guy at the drag strip and have used them ever since... below is a link, you gotta scroll about halfway down the page, but there's a good write-up with a lot of great info (even if you don't use these lifters the info is worth a look)

also, here's something from the write-up (in the link) that i wanted to post on here:

"There are many other things that can cause "lifter" noise - it can be coil
bind, rocker to spring cap interference, spring cap to stems / guide length
interference, poor oiling, high lift cam profile causing loft, overheating motor,
wrong oil viscosity for ambient temperatures, aerated oil, low oil pressure,
gear drive backlash, worn drive chains, etc. However if you're convinced
you've eliminate all of these things, and the lifters still rattle, then the next
step is to a set AMS-Hylift Lifters. With their larger oil reservoirs, they will
usually lessen or eliminate the noise."

P.S. they even offer an oversize lifter in case you're bores don't check out

moose

the set I am replacine is the ams hylift the front intake ticking noise in the cup the pushrod sits in
hoping it is just a defective lifter again but replacing the set and trying again I have heard nothing but good about the johnson hy lift. will keep all posted
