You look at the VE values that are to the left of the line shown in the EGR Effect TPS Analyzer. Then adjust the front or rear based on what is there. By lowering the values in the EGR Effect tables you will lower the values that appear in the VE tables when properly tuned. Look at section 3.13 in the tuning guide as it is covered there with a few pictures. The best tune will have the flattest VE table when finished.

Tsani

The calibration you need is not out yet. Check for it on Friday evening.

Well, I checked the new MT8 cal for my bike against the Horiba on the dyne. Couldn't be happier!
Good job Steve. 3 gas analyzer for sale!!

Steve: I've read it and seen the graph prior to posting. Still don't know which ve table needs the EGR adjustments to be made in, front or rear other than graphing the location of the left dots as to rpm and tps. Then finding this same spot on the vtune file looking for the higher ve between the two. Then set this one lower to the same value as the other one. Is that how it works?

The graph of the EGR Effect is only there to show you the area that changing the EGR settings will effect. You have to look at each VE table and determine how flat the VE values are in that area just as the before and after graphs in the manual show you. If yours look like the before graph then you need to adjust the EGR for that cylinder and then re-Vtune and check your results. Many times you will find your peak VE values are in the EGR area and that is what is causing you to have to screw with the engine size to get enough range to make adjustments. I'm working on a 120R engine and have not had to raise the engine size or screw with injector size to get the VE's to come in. Not finished just yet with the tune but hope to be able to finish it up first of the week once we get the rest of the calibrations released.

Steve: Think I got it now. Thanks. Seems like I overthunk the whole process, again.

Hi all. I have had installed on my bike a MT7 file (with big adjustments in VE, spark, AE/PE, TBC, IAC, ...) derived from map YA205-002-C2.MT7.

Now I have copied all tables in my bike's MT7 map to new map CYA205-03-A0.MT8, touching neither new tables (EGR and BARO) nor cam settings.

Can I expect such new map to behave (in the bike) exactly as the previous MT7 file?

And one more. If my memory serves me well, I remember somebody here reporting that MT8 files are "one way" only, after installing them you cannot restore previous ECM stock cal. Is this true?

Thanks a lot for such superb work!

Steve Cole

MT8's are NOT one way. What they are is a new setup that is different than anything else out there. So what we had to do was to stop someone from trying to reprogram it so they would not screw things up. You can at anytime take the STOCK upload you made prior to programming and put it back in and everything is back to how it was prior to the MT8 being installed.

As for converting the old to the new nothing will be exactly the same but it should be very close to the same.

  Absolutely clear now.

OK, very close is enough for me. What I don't want is the bike running like crap and needing the tune process to be run again.

I'm using the cam selector estimator.  The instructions say to set the cam opening just prior to the actual opening and the closing just after the actual closing?  Am I reading that right?  So, if I have a cam opening of 15* BTDC , I should set it to 16* BTDC?  ANd a closing of 40* ATDC I should set to 41* ATDC?

lonewolf

The way I understand it, you may choose an earlier IVO point after you have collected data and used the analysis graph.

Rider57

I think it is going to depend on your engine. I tried mine both ways and found that dead on looked best.

What build do you have? What does "dead on" mean/look like?

Yes you can.  But... you would have to retune the VEs, etc.
Oh No!

Why would I want to set the values different than the actual 20/40 on my cam? That puts me back into the guessing game an no way to varify ivc any without a dino.

Sorry, my earlier response was about something different. Is it maybe because most cam specs are at .053? :nix:

In the Cam Selector Estimator window it states:

Quote·   Adjust the "Intake Opens" slider to the point just prior to the Intake Valve Opening.
·   Adjust the "Intake Closes" slider to the point just after the Intake Valve Closes.

I'm just trying to figure out what "just prior" means.

If the intake opens at 20 on your cam listing, you set it to 22. This makes 22 prior or earlier setting than actual cam spec.

It was stated to try a setting 1 greater or less. Looking at the bike on the Horiba while running a 23 on the dyne showed me my bike liked neither one. IVC opening (22 BTDC) and closing (18 ABDC) right at the mark gave me 4 more hp and 16 Tq.
I compared this with a degree wheel and dial indicator. (i know...picky bastard)

Here is the problem with camshaft cards, very often they are wrong! So now what, well all we can do is give you the tools so that you can do as Rider57 did and find what works best for your setup. Think about what goes into valve opening and valve closing and I think it will become clear to all why we did what we did. First off there are only 7 points to be able to set the IVO point and 3 to set IVC. How many different cam profiles are there out there? Now let's look at what all can go wrong or different even on the same build of parts.

Valve open/close is based on the camshaft, lifter, pushrod, cam gear, cam chain, crank gear, crank chain, rocker arm, valve spring and last but not least oil pressure. Add all those tolerances up and it's easy to see why cam cards can be wrong. So we called our tool an ESTIMATOR for these very reasons. Use the estimator to start with and then run the test to get your final answer was the best we could come up with.

After the last update i have no tune files.  None of them try to find and load tune and they are gone.  All was ok before last up date?  How do I start over? or what should I do?

mayor

no worries, all your tunes are still there.  there's a drop down table that you have to select .mt7 instead of the now default .mt8
warning, this poster suffers from bizarre delusions

blackdog

For those of us that are staying with the MT7 files is there a way to change the default 'file open" to MT7 as opposed to MT8?

Steve Cole

Sorry not that we know of at this time. It is something that we are looking into and if we can figure it out we will add it into a future release.

Ok I am on to that but I have some thing wrong.  I only have tune files that i saved some time ago for stock application.   NO list of mt7 files.  Tune files seem to be gone.  Once I get this figured out I need a new starting tune for 2010 street glide.  SE intake. V&H big shot duals, Woods TW-555.  I have no tunes.   Delete and re load software?  It was ok until today and I did a update.  I been looking at tunes not sure where I was going to start.  Today I was ready to play but now no tunes.
