Friend is looking at a 07 FXD are there any issues with these as they are the first year for the 96 inch engine. Any trans issues? If so are the later bikes updated? I thought I heard the 07's had some issues that is the reason for the post.

I have a 07 FXDB and had no problems other than the stock gear ratio. Too high .Can't use 6Th gear till about 70-75. He might want to put a 30 tooth tran pulley on it. I converted mine back to chain drive  3.04 ratio.  I have heard some complain about the 5Th gear noise, straight cut gears I think.  I never noticed it on mine.  In all I think it is a OK bike ,I got over 45,000 miles on mine I see no reason to get a new one and besides I have the title not Harley finance.  Just my thoughts on my 07 someone else might have different opinion.

Thanks Zoot. I rode an 07 FXDC and found it to run very good for a stock bike. The gear ratios seemed to be very good except for the OD which was like you said to high and you had to be doin at least 70 to use it. Overall I thought it was a decent bike and was surprised to hear that the 07's had engine issues and that the trannys were noisy. He has found an 07 for a good price and I just thought I would check with some others about the defects I had heard about. I guess it just depends on the bike or maybe I just heard wrong. Thanks for the reply, RD

The new 6 speed tranny was inroduced in the Dyna's 2006 model year first. There was an issue with failing main shaft needle bearings. Problem was fixed with 07 model year.

Thanks Karl I thought I remembered something was up about the trannys when they went to the 6 speed. Can anybody tell me if there any issues with the 07 engines? I wouldn't think there is but just ain't to sure.

The bike is 5 years old . I would look at bike millage ,what mods been done to the bike, how it had been ridden , how it had been cared for and serviced and is it being sold because of a issue the bike has . The 96 engines are basically the same ,Softails are a little different with the way they mount and the counter balance. I thing the engines are OK. Mine has lasted 5 years and never let me down, and it has a mild build to it. I live in the mountains and do long hard rides. I only had to use my HOG card once and that was because of a flat tire.  Once again it is a 5 year old bike If it looks OK runs OK and the price is right its up to the buyer.

I have about 60,000 miles on my '07.

no problems with the driveline.  not even at 117".

IMHO it's one tough driveline, once you get past the crank

It's bone stock with 5K miles on it in like new shape for 8K

They run warm stock, but that can be addressed easily enough.
It must be true,I read it on the internet.

My '07 bagger has been pretty trouble free. Had a problem with the injector wires that was a PITA to find. Moco snugged down some zip ties too tight. Also had the check valve in the fuel pump go bad and the dreaded hole in the in-tank fuel line. Engine wise, no issues. It's at .0045 runout and it's now a 103" with around 200 ccp making 114/120. Other than those fuel system issues, it's been a great bike.

That sounds like a good deal. Hope it works out.

The Noisy tranny can be quieted down Using Redline Shockproof Heavy..

The thing I would be careful about on ANY of the 96" bikes 07 and Up would be IF engine Vibrated.. The few I have Heard about with cranks Out of Specks showed Vibration and I would stay clear.. I have an 09 FLHR it is SMooooooth and a buddy has one newer and IT shakes BAD,,,, HD is arguing about it as I type... They Moved the Out of Balance figures from .006 to .012.. on Crank Run-Out That solved the Problem... Good at you HD.

YOU will KNOW if it SHAKES MORE....
