I just removed my stock lifters to replace with S/E ones. I found vertical lines or scratches in the bores and lower portion of lifter body above the roller. The rear cylinder has more lines than the front one. These are very small lines but can be felt with finger nail. This is a fresh 107 build the lifters were the original OEM. The lifters have 20,000 miles on them. Is this normal wear? or what could cause this. Any input would be appreciated.

Not normal, not good, and I am not aware of anyone sleeving them but they should be, to save cases in the worse cases.

Is there anything in the lifter bore that might look out of the ordinary but might still be OK or normal ?
When I had my lifters out (removed them when I did my conversion cam) the portion of the bore towards the outside of the engine looked shinier than the rest of the bore. The area was smooth to the touch.  Normal or not normal ?
Wondering if this is just the "thrust" side of the bore if there is a thrust side.

This topic doesn't get a lot of ink but it should. I suggest miking the bores with a snap gauge and mike, or dial bore gauge and establishing the clearance. IIRC (check the manual) the maximum clearance is .003". Have gouges or excessive clearance and the motor is likely to be bleeding a lot of excess oil out there plus not feeding the other components in the circuit well. The oil will take the path of least resistance, the large clearance, first
