Well my speedo went down the tubes. So ordered a new one and wired it up according to the spec sheet a little different than my original 96 RK but pretty straight forward I thought. Well power to everything but the speedo. Tach directionals hi/lo beam etc just not to speedo. So replaced speedo pickup sensor and again nothing. No lights on speedo odometer nothing any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks Mark :wtf:

speedo needs power from ignition switch usually the orange/white wire and a ground side black wire
Keep your feet on the pegs and your right hand cranked

Well I wired up the orange according to the spec sheet in socket 1 and the ground to socket 10. Nothing no power to sppedo power to everything else. Is there a fuse to check for the power to the speedo and wheres it located? The only other thing I can think of is the ground. There are three black wires on for ground the other two red/blk and yellow/blk I think thats the marking on them they are for the waring lights/indicator lights. Please help really starting to piss me off. :wtf:

Which speedo did you install, 67033-95D?

Pin 1 should be orange/white.
Pin 10 is indeed ground.
Perhaps double-check that you followed the caution in the instructions:
"In the following step, make certain ground wire from speed sensor is inserted in cavity (7) of connector [39B]. Do not mix with speedo ground connected at cavity (10)."

MDGFLHR

Did that correctly. I double checked myself several times. The only thing I'm guessing it may be a loose ground or these 3 black wires two marked one just black maybe one of the marked ones is actually the ground I'm at a loss.......

Does the needle move when you spin the rear wheel (either riding the bike normally or when on a lift)?
Did you buy the new speedo from a dealer or off eBay?

You could unplug the speedo connector and check for power on pin 1 and continuity to ground on pin 10.

MDGFLHR

New speedo is right from Harley do I check continuity at 10 and power at 1 with switch on correct? Good with some stuff but  hate electrical Thanks

The proper way to check a ground is to load it,this is an easy way.Unplug the connector, take an automotive sealed beam headlight, battery + on one side ,the other side to ur connector ground cavity, u should have a brite light,Ground good, faint light, ground bad.

I had the same problem. Check your paperwork, does it say to use speed sensor p/n 74429-97?
I fitted one and the speedo worked fine :banghead:
Hope this works for you

I replaced the sensor with a aftermarket one that fits my year. I'd hate to have to buy another one..... :banghead: :banghead:

Sorry but I found it was the only one that worked, cost me $$$$$ to find out.
I had a Thunder heart programmable one, then a standard Harley one, then I got the one they say to use :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Thanks Dawg for the insight. This kinda pisses me off due to the dealer and the insruction sheet not explaining this part is required. Should have gone with just the aftermarket speedo. Thanks again Dawg ordered the part today.

Maybe we'll save someone else the problems we've had.

Hi
When you're saying no power to speedo do you also mean that it's got no backing light as well? If so, it cannot be the pick-up as it GETS power from the speedo  and only inputs the speed signal. Could it be that you've mixed up the two black pick-up wires with ground?
As suggested, you really need to check your power and ground.
Nevermind the pick-up at this stage - you can disconnect that until you've gotten power on your speedo.
For info/ref. I just wired in an electronic speedo on my '91, and was even running the bike for a few days without the pick-up installed (I was waiting for it to arrvie in the mail). All worked - L&R indicators, oil, neutral, high beam, backing lighting for the speedo itself, except of course the needle & odo was not moving...
All the best,

Update found the problem the orange /white in the connector under the left side cover was broke at the terminal. Of course I have power to speedo and backing light but still no movement of needle or odometer waiting on the pickup that Dawg suggested. Thanks for everyone's help This is the best site and everyone is very helpful again thanks Everyone ride hard but ride safe :teeth:
