BONERACIN

I pulled the Primary investigating a noise and found that the primary chain adjuster shoe was broke. This is the second time this has happened. Anyone else seen this happen?  The bike is an 04 FXDWG.

Thanks,
Bone

Bone yubetcha - 'Gracie' (2001 FLHR) broke hers clean in half on the way from Houston to Red River NM a few yrs back..................fortunately we were close (about 60 miles) to Abilene HD (Kent's Cycles) and Gracie was still under extended warranty...............we limped in (riding real gentle) and got there by closing time on a Thursday.............when they got her on a lift Friday mornin they discovered NO SHOE in stock - BUT a brand new RK on the next lift in 'new-bike-make-ready' mode had a faulty starter - they did not hesitate to 'steal' the shoe off that bike for Gracie's needs...............a new primary chain, shoe, and labor for the $50 deductible and we got back in the wind by noon Friday....................

yup - happened to me, too.  Then, the replacement shoe from the dealer wore down to about 1/2 thickness w/in about 10K miles.  That's when I changed to a HB125 tensioner, more for the non-factory shoe material than anything else.  So far so good, although even that's wearing faster than the early 90's shoe I had on my prior HD.

If it's the L shaped chains adjuster, go to the early box type. Make sure not to tighten the 2 1/4-28 cross bolts too much or you'll pop a shoe on those too.

Get the wrong tech working in the primary and if the compensating sprocket/clutch hub is tightened wrong it will put pressure on it and crack it.

Broke 2, then put in the auto adjustable one.  No problems so far, 7000 miles on it since Feb.
