engine kicked back broke 2 teeth off of the pinion gear and some of the ring gear teeth have marks
HD wants 130.00 for just the 10 tooth pinion gear looking on line I found a compufire set of ring and pinion gear for 159.95 .
I have a couple of questions can the stock ring gear be removed without removing the clutch [can I just drill out the rivets ?]
looking at the compufire site the part for my bike is 54003 but under that part they mention something about a bdl adapter dont know what that is or if I need it ?
my bike is a 2004 electraglide classic
with an all balls 1.4 starter hopefully this compufire set up works with the all balls starter
thanks

It can be done. The screws have to go in from the back. You will need a cut down wrench to get them back in.I just took my clutch off and did it.I went with 84/10

I found a bushing that fit exactly over the rivet then used a transfer punch to find the center I drilled the head off one rivet to see how it would go seems like it will work I covered the clutch basket so the cuttings wouldnt fall in ...........looks like I can get all the bolts in at the 9 oclock position if I remove the plugs and rotate the engine
getting dark and its time for a beer back at it tomorrow

did the compfire thing and changed the ratio and it works like a charm now on a 05 screaming chicken that broke several teeth out of the gear and pinion

got a compufire set on order went to the dealer out of curiosity the parts guy said they dont sell the ring gear separate as its riveted to the clutch hub the unit is $390.00 !
That $130.00 for the pinion gear and $390.00 for the ring gear I can imagine the cost would be over a grand if I had to take it in to a shop for the labour ......I got the aftermarket compufire set for $172.00 shipped to Canada
