For those coming in from Calif on I-80, theres major road construction starting about 5 miles West of downtown Reno
Theres minor road construction all around but I-80 is the worst

Enjoy !

So what kind of construction? I'll be coming up Weds. and after going to Sturgis this year I've about had it with chip seal, gravel road and wagon trail.
BTW I have your recurve windshield, a good product at a good price.

Alot of one lane, and last time I was through there we were detoured over to the West bound side for a few miles so it was slow.
If the one place is still directing trucks to the right and cars to the left, go left , ( I know I know DUH) there was a few of us that were headed that way and one guy thought he was going to beat us and he went the truck route , needless to say we waited for him in Truckee for about 5-10 minutes.. lol
And of coarse you'll have your typical A$$ Holes on the road as well.
Last year coming back a Jessica Simpson wanna be in a Bmer BSing on a phone wanted my lane , All I could do was hammer it as I kicked the drivers door as there was only the fog line and the center divider , no where to go but forward and fast ! lol

Never fails they blow by ya in the straightaways, then you pass them everytime in the corners  :banghead:

And watch out for the CHP's  they will be hiding everywhere ,at bends, back up the on ramps, to the planes  so try to keep it no faster than 10 over . Even then they still might come after ya !!

If youre coming in Eastbound on I80, the Reno construction starts about 5 miles before you get to the downtown exit at Sierra & Virginia St's & continues past the junction with 395. They're widening I-80, its two lanes but theres no emergency lane on either side. Road condition is decent, its just tight there....If youre coming in, try to get there before 4pm or after 6pm... rush hour traffic is a bitch right there.

Nevada's Hiway Patrol tends to sit around the area between Boomtown & Robb Dr exits. People tend to haul butt there so its a money maker for them

I dont have any info on I80 coming up the hill in Calif.

Thanks, that's good to know.I'll be coming in on eastbound 80 Thursday P.M. Knowing that I'll get there a little earlier.   Coff 06

80 is crappy on a good day, worn concrete and the steady thumping for the expansion joints is enough to wear you down.
If you have any choice at all take 50 at the Sacramento junction. Gorgeous ride through Lake Tahoe with some of the best scenery in the world.
Also if you take 50 to 395 you can stop at Carson City HD where there are quite a few vendors, stunt shows and beer gardens. It make for a nice break before the short jaunt to Reno.

Hwy 50 to 395 ... thats a great road to ride if you have the time. Hwy 50 N thru Placerville then straight thru So Tahoe & Casinos.
North of the Casinos, you can pick up Hwy 50 again & down the hill to Carson City.
If you want to by-pass Tahoe City & the Casino area, take Hwy 89 ( right), it merges w/ Hwy 88 towards Woodsford and it ends at Hwy 395 in Minden.

Note: Several weeks ago a friend off another site went down on Hwy 50 No of Placerville because they had sprayed/slurry coated the roads & it got slick in the sunshine. No idea how it is now.

Super Dave

Seems like they're working on the 80/395 interchange area every year.

Jim, I just rode today thru that section where he went down, the fresh ribbons of asphalt have seasoned enough where there was no oil leaching up anymore, and it was 90deg today, same as the day he went down.

That said, 50 is an excellent scenic option to 80 to get from Sac to Carson City

Good to see 50 is ok now ... Im sure there will be packs of bikes on that road this week

Ive been in Reno 15yrs & I dont recall a time when some part of I-80 between Auburn & Reno wasnt being worked on. The area around Truckee, CA took about 5 yrs to rebuild. Then again, they can only work up there 6-7 mos a year. Its all Fed money....

If you like the twisties and have the time HYWY 4 is fantastic. Take it to 89 and then 395 to Carson City for the HD stop and then on to Reno.
I like it even better than 50 possibly even better scenery. It is worth the time, some of the best riding in the Sierras.  I know Seattledyna will know this ride.

Another great way to get to Reno is take hy 88 off of hy 99 in Stockton , take 88 to Jackson stay on 88 till you get to Minden in Nevada  then take 395 north and the next town is Carson City Nevada  this rout will take about 30 min longer than taking 80 east but is a great ride

I took this route last time.  Awesome for sure.  Might do it again on Friday.  Or over Sonora pass, that's always fun too.

Hwy 4 is an excellent ride! One lane on the eastern slope with with almost 30% grade in places, more fun to ride from east to west on the steep one lane side

Not much going on in Reno or sparks today, but I see on the news there was an incident in Sparks last night the forced the mayor to close down some of the event.

As a result Virginia City on Carson City HD were the place to be! Lots to see and do :smileo:

I saw that big weather front headed towards Carson around 5pm as I was getting ready to leave to go over 50, decided to outrun it and head north then go over mt Rose to Tahoe, stayed dry that way but added an extra hour to the trip home, rolled into the driveway at 8pm

Any truth to the rumor that there was an altercation at street vibs resulting in the death of a member of a well known club?

Yes... A Hells Angel was killed and two Vagos injured at the Nugget casino.

sneakypete

Yeah, I heard it was the HD pres, second hand info but apparently  it's true. sp

We pulled into Verdi to fill up at that Chevron gas station this morning, there were a "Potty mouth" load of Mongos there , at least 20 + bikes lined up out front and 4 or 5 of em posted up out front of the casino/store and in front of the fast food place connected to it.  Didn't look good ..

I had dinner at the Nugget friday night. 10-15 vagos at each door of the hotel and 30-50 vagos at every bar in the hotel. Patches from all over the country. Never seen anything like it(at street vibrations). left at 9:30pm the shooting was at 11pm.

stevic

My wife and I were staying at the Nugget, Friday afternoon the Vagos showed up in numbers and colors, most of them wearing hunting knives. It was pretty intimidating. A fist fight broke out outside of Traders Rick in the casino the HA got knocked down and came up shooting. The next day there wasn't a color to be seen in the hotel. At 11 AM Sat there was a drive by shooting where another biker was shot in the stomach, that's when they shut the whole thing down. The full story is in the Reno Gazette. I also heard there was fight at the Silver Legacy also.
