I finally broke down and jumped into the GPS arena. Bought a beginner type GPS for me. Anyone using this GPS model (garmin Nuvi 1350) and have any tips (pros or cons) on how to use it with a cycle. Doesn't seem to have any way to link with my cycle stereo speakers either - I have an '08 Ultra.

Thanks in advance.

I bought my wife a Nuvi 1350 a year or so ago.  Its a very good basic unit.  No way to link to anything else however.  Its a stand alone unit.  It doesn't allow you to build your own routes either.  I like the Garmins because they are easy to use and very intuitive.

When you search, do SEARCH ALL.  Punch in the street, street # and let it find your address.

Turn off the idiot voice.

Most importantly.  Whenever you Navigate, you have to decide if you want to go by Freeway or not.  If you are travelling 1 mile and you have it taking you by Freeway, it will loop you 3 miles.   Find out how to do that.  I believe it is Setting, Tools, Navigation, Avoidances.

Hey Guys...I have a Garmin Nuvi 1300 and the same as most of you about not being able to program your own route. BUT, I called Garmin to bitch about that and to see if I could some how up-grade to a program that I could program. well, to my suprise they told me where to go and down load their mapping system. (Just like map quest or Harleys site) If I use their mapping I can program my own route. You just have to learn how their mapping works. It is a little different than MapQuest or H-D's ride planner.

Are you talking about MapSource?  Let us know how you are able to download routes into your 1300.

jt...they gave me two different ones and yes I think one was Mapsource. I also had to down load something called "POI" Loader. Both were more difficult to use than H-D Ride planner so I have not used them a lot. But I was able to plan my trip and route on their map, save it my my computer then down load to my Garmin. Then my Garmin would follow that route. Not real user friendly. I'll check it out and let you know more details later.

Just a heads up DON'T put your home address in , put an address down the street a few blocks !!

A little scenario here ; say your at a local sporting event etc , you left the gps right in the nice little holder mounted on the dash ,your car gets broken into , all they have to do is turn it on hit home and they now know where you live .
They know your at the event , they know when the game will get over , they head to your house well you know the rest of the story..

I started out with a Magellan with in 3 months it kept shutting off , took it back coarse it was obsolete had to upgrade , within 2 months it kept shutting off , upgraded to the Garmin I think 255W ? I liked how the Magellan was more user friendly, but the Garmin worked great never shut off ,...
But after a few trips and listening to her directions sometimes she would have us turn off the freeway and go through town to get to our destination only to look a block away and there was the freeway. So we nick named her the BITCH !! lol

Had some work done on the house we had moved into , so I parked my truck across the street, left the windows cracked for air since the truck was sitting in the sun, yep you guessed it some a-hole popped the lock ransacked the  console and stole it along with a ipod I had.
So now I got a Garmin nuvi 1490  only had it a few weeks now, so far so good ..

Thats what I now have.  I think you'll like it.  I especially like the 5" screen.

Just picked up a Nuvi 1450LM. The difference between the 4.3"/5" screen is very nice...
