What's going on out there?  I grew up in the Bay Area and still follow the local college and Pro teams so I listen to KNBR in the morning on my internet radio and when they do the traffic report there is a motorcycle wreck every day that's screwing up traffic somewhere.  What's happening, crazy crotch rocket lane splitters, cagers hunting bikes to crunch the worlds worst riders?  It's hard for me to believe that there can be a wreck or two every morning seven days a week.  What are the insurance rates like?
One never knows, does one. (Fats Waller)

lots of crazy "new" sportbike riders on the roads for sure, and at least in the south bay, lots of tech engineers from other countries on the road also...and the traffic just gets worse all the time, it all makes for a bad combination for riders no matter what they are on!

Ya gotta be on top of your game to survive in the big cities anymore :dgust:

I like riding the bag area myself,  but you have to anticipate the worse all the time.  tomorrow temps will be 75 in San Fran.  a group of us will be heading there,  at that temps all the tourist and crazies will be out at the wharfs.  great for people watching, and we have a perfect parking spot in front of Aliotos for 4 of us.

Seems like I ride through there once a year, just to remind me why I never ride there.

Aliotos is a great place. I'm jealous.

I dont mind riding in the bay area. There are so many cool things to do! It makes the traffic worth it to me.

Alioto's is the bomb!  Seafood sausage is unreal!

Anyway, IMO it's largely due to all the road construction.  There's a ton of lane shifts, bad roads, and super-narrow lanes that don't allow for comfortable lane sharing.

I listen to the radio from the Bay area frequently here in the Sacramento area. It seems like there's a bike crash on the Bay area freeways nearly every day. The traffic there is insane and the bikes just ride through it.

There were a couple more accidents this morning, I've notice quite a few on the bay bridge lately but I think there's still a lot of construction going on.  I know lane sharing or splitting is legal in Calif. but I don't think I'd do it on a regular bases, esp. if the traffic was moving at a reasonable pace but what are you going to do if some four wheel vehicle tries to share your lane.  When I last lived in the BA I avoided the freeways for the most part, lots of other ways to get around if you know the area.
