Previous owner installed forwards, removed the shifter shaft, and sealed the inner primary. I didn't want to reinstall the shifter shaft and go back to mid controls cause it's a lot of work and I liked the look of the forwards but they don't fit me too well, 5'6" 29" inseam. I'm about 1" short of hooking my heal on the forward pegs. Didn't have much luck finding a good solution for bringing the forward controls closer. Messin' with the shifter and brake rods did not appeal to me. So I rode the last 3 years with mid pegs and forward controls. After 3 years of not quite fitting the forward controls, I figured there had to be a better way without having to re-engineer the placement of the shifter and brake pedal.

Here's my easy solution (no messin' with the brake or shifter). I bought 2" offset peg mounts off eBay ($39). Brake and shifter are still in easy reach.

I was going to suggest changing seats to give you a little more "forward".
But, like you said you found the solution and maybe for others that have that problem.
The seat would have cost more, you made the right choice.

At 5'8" I found the forward controls on my FXDF made my knees ache after 50 miles. I found a set of mid Dyna mid controls, blacked out the mounts, and put them on. It gives me an extra set of pegs to move my feet to on longer hauls.

That looks good the way you did it. In my case, I have a problem with my left leg so I had to go to forward controls with floorboards. There are no boards that fit right on a Dyna so I fabricated a set. They are all steel, welded with rubber covers and all of the mechanisms are black powdercoated. With the boards I can move my legs forward or back as required.

The forward control kit came with all of the parts and gaskets to remove the inner and outer primary to remove and plug the forward shift hole. That was too much work for a small benefit. I used a 5/16-24 stud and a rubber disc to lock the shift lever against the crankcase. Then I made a cap for the splined shift lever. Give a lazy fellow a hard job to do and he'll figure a way around it. Voila! (Last picture).
