I have a 99 ultra with 80K miles. I noticed the other day that I was having trouble shifting gears..seemed the shifter was sticking..I found the problem to be the rear lever was stripped.
I went to the HD shop and they quoted me $350.00 + parts to replace the stripped lever UNLESS the shaft was stripped and then they would have to pull the transmission to make the repair..I didn't ask for a quote on that job..
A buddy of mine told me about an aftermarket "better lever"...for about $160.00...I checked it out, got it and man...this thing is the cat's a$$....great, quality product and easy to install....maybe this will help someone else out that is having the same problems... NOTE: I have no affiation with the owner or producer of this product...just trying to help out fellow bikers..
I or the harley shop would have had to pull primary, clutch basket, chains, stator, inner primary, and GOD only knows what else to replace this lever..none of that was necessary with this part...Hope this helps someone

Question, just how exactly did you or are you going to remove the original lever without pulling the inner primary?  :nix:

High Speed Dremmel tool ,  I went ahead and pulled the primary & clutch all in one swoop, then the inner primary, no need to pull the stator.. just pull the starter back a little.. very easy job total cost about $50.00

Like Dakota said, I cut the old one off with a dremmel tool and cutting disk. Did the entire job in maybe an hour....The new lever is stainless steel and undercut to clamp on the shaft, even if it is stripped...quality replacement piece...

It's cheaper to learn to keep the stock one tight then you won't have this problem..

I agree, stndard proceedure on a service for me, Takes a total of about 5 seconds to check it with a long ball allen socket.

Same problem looking at the better lever had to replace with stock one for now. but i did learn with the 6 speeds you don't have to pull the primary's there's just enough room after removing the bolt to wiggle the old one off and put the new one on.
