Guess I should clarify that last post.

Was on here a lot late 80's and early 90's up to aprrox 2002. Then I was in hospital for 8 months.   Forgot how I was logged in then. So now I have a new name. Had to re-register. I posted severall pics of the pan back then, but would not know how to locate them now. Question, when did harley start putting oil seal inside main drive gear?

Harley Tech Talk did not exist until around 2000 or 2001.  We were originally hosted by MSN until about 3 years ago when we stepped out on our own and the sight you see today was created.  There are no photos from the old MSN site that were migrated to this new site.  Not sure where you would have been posting in the late 80's into the 90's.

But welcome aboard!

They started putting an oil seal in the main drive gear in 1965.

Thanks Craig. Lost a lot of short term memory while i was gone. I just know I was on here a lot . I replaced all of my gears on the Pan with Andrews sometime in the early 90's. Just wondering if the Andrews main drive gear I purchased then would take thesmall seal inside the gear?

CraigArizona85248

Yep. It should accept the seal with no problem.

So why don't you post some new pictures of your bike on the site?  Show that you're not a 16 year old with a Zuma 50.  Maybe some pictures of your Andrews gears, and start some posts on this transmission build that you are going to do.

I was on the original www biker tech site, and it didn't have a place for bike pictures.

This Spring, having lost most of my blood, do to a Maiiory-Weiss tear, and going into a coma, then a few days later going Code Blue, and finally waking up and being unable to lift a spoonful  of jello to my lips, and fighting my way back to where I could finally ride again, your short term memory loss doesn't get any sympathy from me.

Pzokes:  To explain better about the short term memory it was due to being in the hospital  on a artificial heart assit device 8 months waiting on a heart. Fighting infection after infection after infection. Anyway thats all I have to say about that.  I built my 56 pan over the years and have had it 30 years. Transmission was rebuilt with all new Andrews gears in 95, Also have a 97 Heritage Softail. Did not mean to start a racket. I will post pics when I have the means to do so.

Yeah I was thinking something was a little fishy there..... the world didn't have internet in the 80's (unless in my totally stoned mind back then, I missed it) I'm pretty sure HTT wasn't started until sometime in 2000, but I didn't find it until almost 2001 and back then it was only around 2500 members. Wasn't very long after that when it blew out of proportions, the "Harley gods" were born, I got banned about once a year, spin off sites were competing for attention, and then MSN shut it all down.
Welcome back anyhow.....
As far as the tranny rebuild goes, the JIMS rebuilt kit will have all of the seals in it that you need as well as a new counter shaft and new c clips. Well worth the money.

EASY...

The internet was actually there in the 80's.  But it was nothing like we know of it today.  It was a community of engineers, scientists, and military people mostly.  There was very little (if anything) in the way of motorcycle tech talk boards, gun tech talk boards, etc.  We've come a LONG way baby!   :teeth:  Imagine an internet with no pictures, or graphics... just text  :dgust:

Oh... and EASY, if it will make you feel more at home, we could setup an automatic script to ban you for a week a couple times a year.  :hyst:

I just want you to feel at home at the new HTT just as much as you did at the old HTT.   :hyst:

As the politicians say I mispoke. Checking back on things, thanks to Craig. I did not even have a computer till 11-7-02. I think as was thinking about a AOL Harley chat room where i posted the pic. I rebuilt the Pan in 97. S&S 84 ci stroker kit. Right case machined out to accept 58 and later pinion shaft bearings. Lucked up an a set of brand new 63 outside oiler heads. The first Power Arc single fire ignition which has since gone south. Still running the wierd enginering distributor with points and  mechinical advance. Due to illnes have not rode it in a couple of years. just squirt marvel mystery oil in cylinders and turn it over  couple times a month. Going thru the whole thing now so my son can ride it.  If i can figure out how to post pics will do so soon.

My brother-in-law worked for a division of IBM and got me an IBM PC for 1/2 price.  I was on the first real Harley tech site.  Craig is right,  there was no graphics, pictures, etc. It was just text, with no spell check.  It was very different than today.  It was really just a place to get answers to your tech questions.  The people there had so much more knowledge than I did, so I spent most of my time asking questions. Some of those gurus are still on the internet, but rarely answer questions do to varying reasons.  That's all I'm giving up, otherwise there will be a sudden rise in internet phoneys that will say they are old timers, and were on that site.

I should be resuming work on my 1938 84" UL stroker Flathead this week (posted in the Flathead/knucklehead section).  I need to do all the detail work.  I have unpacked enough items from storage to work comfortly in the garage of the house I recently bought.  Unfortunately, I have other medical problems that limit how long I can work on it  every day.
