200 rear tire

just installed a 200 rear tire on a 2004 nighttrain. stock 04 swingarm with all HD parts at home

Bet it will look great,but you should have went with an 18" wheel as the mileage on the 200/17 tires really suck,no matter which brand,if your able to get 7.5k out of any of them,you are doing better than the rest.I get 7k out of Dunlaps and that's the best,have got as little 2.5k out of Metzlers.Good luck,and can't wait for pics.        Coff 06

Bigger tire patch requires a sticky tire, even if it's multi ply, you still need a stickier tire, wider tires would slide if they weren't a sport type rubber, aka stickier, than the narrower ones, sport bikes all run 180-190-200mm tires and don't get any milage out of them either... party due to the high speed performance of those bikes ,but also the tire make up.  7k is the norm for me and most.  I have heard that Micellin's Commander II's and American Elite III'S (Dunlop) claim higher milage, but I'm not convinved their 200mm tires will, we'll have to wait and see or try one on, next time I need a rear, which will be next riding season, I'm going to try one of them.  Probbaly start with the AE III, since I like Dunlops.

Me too.  I normally get 5k out of the metzler 880's I like to run.

I have a 04 and would like to upgrade to the 200 myself!!

2004 softail standard, basically the exact same as the nightrain.........I am also willing to change the rear fender from the bobtail to a fatboy style.....

One note, I am running a 95" with ~ 95 hp and 100 lbft tourque.....will the one inch belt handle it?

They start out with less tread depth that most other sizes is one reason.

I have a 04 and would like to upgrade to the 200 myself!!

I'm doing this project as we speak...  You'll need to cut the rear fender frame mounts off, and either dice them up to space them out, leave them off entirely, or purchase the bolt-on mounts from a newer Softail and cut/weld them on.  If you leave them off entirely plan on solo riding only!  You'll then need the rear fender of your choice from a newer Softail with the 200mm tire, as well as the fender strut covers and mounting hardware.  From there my project will be different from yours as I have a chain drive conversion, will be using a Buell XB9R wheel, custom rotor & sprocket, etc...

Not a problem, they use a 1" on the Vrod's.

I don't know anyone who gets 10 seasons out of a tire. If I did, I'd clue them into dry rot. 
All the folks I know, ride, when not working.  The guy with the 200 on his RK gets about 10,000 miles before the it's toast.

  I did this to an '02 Deuce. Although I have heard different stories on whether the Deuce had a different swingarm from other softails.

I used an 18" 180 tire and wheel, with a bobtail fender from an 06 or later softail standard. Everything bolted right up. I believe I had to drill 2 mounting holes in the fender since the Deuce used that different strut cover. I also drilled 3 holes on the top of the fender to use my Deuce passenger backrest.

It looked great when I was done, especially with the SE LED tailight. I had bought the rear fender off ebay in black, so it matched (without a pinstripe.)
