:banghead:  Larry buttoned up the bottom end for me a couple weeks ago.  I picked up SE cooling jets because they were cheaper than the S&S ones.  He installed them for me. Yesterday I learned a lesson.  SE cooling jets are made for a their 4.060" pistons, 4.125" dont work.  I guess the .0325" difference per side is just enough.  The piston skirts hit the top of them.  The part where they bolt to the case is slightly too thick.  I put the jugs on and rotated the engine to check my deck height and when it stopped just short of BDC, I realized I had a problem.   :emoGroan:

Just picked up the S&S ones today.  Tomorrow evening I'll find out how easy/hard it is to change them out without splitting the cases.

Those are the ones we always use here.

maybe im missing something here, why do you think you need to split the cases to replace cooling jets? just remove cylinder, take out the 2 screws and replace the SE ones with the S&S units

I hear a lot of kudo' here for the S&S cooling jets. What makes the S&S ones better than the SE's? I have my engine torn apart and I am considering on replacing the cooling jets basically because this would be the time to do it.

Easy to do with cyls off. Don't drop the screws into the case. Rags are your friend.

I have them on my Deuce.  I am a sucker for a mod so I had Otto put them in.  They are suppose to have a better spray pattern.

John @ Darkhorse Crankworks told me that they try to only use S&S piston oilers...unless a different piston oiler is specifically requested by the customer.
No complaints on my Darkhorse bottom end with S&S squirters.

As I think back now the SE parts were not available yet, so these replaced the stock oilers.  Longevity of the engine was the issue not hp.

Yep. The motor will last longer if the pistons don't whack the oilers...

I just put in a set of stock oilers with the cases intact. (motor still in bike). Definitely takes patience and to me it's a "must be sober" kindajob so as not to drop a screw into the cases. When I went to reinstall the new jets, I used a really strong magnet that I have that was used to override a gas fireplace ignitor at my old house somehow (still not sure how that thing worked). It is about an 1 1/4" long and has a knurled grip. I stuck the torx head socket bit on the magnetic end which then magentized the screw so I could get them started without dropping them into the cases. It worked really well.
