The 57H cam is designed for the new 103's without having to raise compression ratio. Choosing a good 2 into 1 exhaust system, having the engine properly tuned, and keeping throttle body, valve and port diameters stock will have a much bigger influence on low end power than a thinner head gasket anyway.

I can't see any downside to having more compression til ya go too far and a .030 HG won't be too far..I'm at 190 with a 34*IVC and .030HG.. and my bottom end is strong..

Great idea. They were sort of in conflict with one another. I have the 57 in hand already and I would like to know if a .030 head gasket with stock heads is worth the trouble.

.045 to a .030 amounts to about 6-7lbs of compression. I wouldn't go to the work of pulling the heads for that.

 Seems like alot of time and possibly $$ to remove the heads for just a gasket.

A valve job and a little cartridge roll work can make some improvements over bone stock.

Id shy away from the .030 ...Get a .040 gasket and surface about .005 off the head and call it good

I like workin on my bike and didn't have a problem pulling the heads for the .030HG.. It was about 7lbs and went from 8.95 to 9.20 corrected.. I did send the heads off for porting after I saw what they looked like with the powdercoating.. It's a simple job..

I'm simply putting more weight on the choice of pipes, the tuning, keeping port velocity high, etc... than the gasket. I didn't mean to infer that you could not use a thinner head gasket. You can certainly use a .030" head gasket if you want to...it may do nothing.

depends how wrench happy you are. Be nice to drop an .030 gasket in there, but it's a fair amount of work for a small return in increased power and engine efficiency. Knock yourself out.
But then, I wouldn't be able to resist porting and a light mill...but that's just me.
