Phoenix peep...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

gonna be in Phoenix end of April and riding with a bunch of friends. I am just looking for fun and cheap places to eat probably for lunch as we will be riding.

any have to eat at Mexican dives?

what is Rawhide like. It is dorky or is it a fun restaurant.

one of the things found is horseback riding in Cavecreek.

anything other suggestions???  Thanks in advance.

The ride out to Tortilla Flat is nice. They have a restaurant with decent breakfast and burgers (not fantastic, but decent). The ride makes it fun. Be sure to ride the extra 6 miles of paved road past Tortilla Flat. Great scenery!

some how i knew craig would mention tort flat.
i rode that road 6 times a week for 5 years working at the lake.
yeah, there is a lake up there also.
let us know when the time is near. i would be up for a ride and be a guide.
i like miami globe towns also.  nice ride up mountain bout 65 miles.
some good mexican places for lunch.

cave creek is nice.  lots of leos and a special loud pipe camera/tickett thing.  not a fan of rawhide.

I made the mistake of trying to get from Globe to Tortilla Flat...the back way past Roosevelt Lake, on a 305 Honda with 6" over front end and struts instead of shocks on the back.

And now I wonder why my back is all jacked up.   :chop:
This ain't Dodge City, and you ain't Bill Hickock.

I hear that!  I've done the ride from Tortilla Flat to Roosevelt on my Panhead (10" over, rigid frame).  It's not for the timid. 20 miles of washboard dirt road!  Here are some photos from the most spectacular part of that ride... Fish Creek Hill...

If you do the highway from Wickenburg to Prescott you have to continue from Prescott to Jerome.  That is by far the better part of the highway if you like twisties.

Old Crow

Ah, yes, Fish Creek hill.  Funny, the road looks wider than I remember it from '73.

Rawhide in Scottsdale is too touristy for my taste, pricey too.

Mmmmmmm... Joe's Farm Grill!  I love that place.

Here is a Google Earth 3-D rendering of Fish Creek Hill.  It's just a tiny road scratched into the side of the cliff.

If you're doing Tortilla Flats make sure to hit Jake's O'Mine on Apache Trail. Make sure to hit The Hideaway if you make it to Cave Creek. My only must-eat Mexican place is Los Dos Molinos. Don't know anything about Rawhide. If I'm in Scottsdale I'm at TT Roadhouse--which I highly recommend. And, please, don't forget to visit Bourbon Street Circus, Sonny's, and/or the Desert Flame.

Old Crow

Used to be a good place in Tempe for Mexican food...The Dash Inn.  Just a little college joint, but I remember big portions and great food.

Was up to  Rose-Dam. tues. from  mesa and back. rough ass pounding dusty  rd. on my sporty. the rd is best for a dirt bike or jeep. takes a couple hrs once you hit the dirt, around 28 miles  to the dam. best senery is from the flats to apache lake. no need to  see the grand canyon it's all right on this  rd. imop.   it was fun .  another good stop is goldfield goast town on the way up to  the flats . Saloon is old cowboy with harley's and horses tied up out frt. Good food and cold beer. music on wk-ends.no cover charge .
