FSG,

Do you have an "install/user" instruction sheet you could post or is there one available at the GOPURE web site (I couldn't find one)? I'd sure like to eyeball one.

Here is a link to the 22 micron one I mentioned:

Wadda think?

Looks nice, but where do you get the "22 micron" specification?  That web pages gives:
     "Debris Removal: -1 micron"

I have been a mechanic for 35 years now and one thing that has never changed is the customer allways asking "how did the oil look" and he gets in reply "looked like oil" well we know what he meant . Usually the only time I see something bad in the oil he's usually not there for a service . So I tell them instead of concentrating on the oil its more unveiling as to whats in the filter and with the K&P its easy
side note, when I got set up as a dealer with Chris at K&P I asked why no distributors carried his filter but was informed Midwest did and that Drag Specialties wanted to also BUT! they wanted to have it made off shore for a better proffit margin he declined to compromise the quality of its USA manufacturing

I called PC Racing USA this past week and talked to a guy named JJ. He said their version of the reusable oil filter system is made in the USA in a facility in Arizona. I know they're sold out of Drag Specialties....

Funny how the K&P filter and the PC Racing filter look identical. When I spoke with the guy from K&P at the V-Twin Expo he showed me pictures of their manufacturing facility, with a big sign out front that said K&P. Obviously made in-house and in the USA. This PC Racing seems like a reseller of some sort, at least thats the impression I get from their website. Seeing as they are both identical to each other, one of them obviously copied the other company's product.

Look above where you read,  Absolute Micron Rating.

That was my train of thought as they're basically described to have identical specs, material make up and physical appearance. Then I thought they may be a Chinese knock off so I called the company. He (JJ) was very direct to say they're made in Arizona. I know that doesn't make them identical but nice to know they're an american product ...

They may very well be made in Arizona. Did JJ say they are made 'in-house' by PC Racing? Odds are they are not made in house by PC racing, but by a contract manufacturer. Still lends itself to the idea that they copied the unit from K&P.

I'm curious as to why KP is not using the lower micron rated filter mesh like gopure?

clawdog60

also the gopure is 2 ply. I didn't see that rating on the kp

Where did it say that? I miss that one. It may mean it is more prone to clogging.

Nevermind, I found it
Hey FSG, I take it you haven't had a problem with it clogging or being difficult to clean because of the two ply? It's probably how they get it to 22 microns, probably by offsetting the second layer a slight bit.

You missed that?  Hahaha!  It's at the tail end of the second sentence in the first paragraph:

"100% Absolute filtration THROUGH deep pleated, two ply, Stainless Steel Filter Media."

Oops, I hope it's okay to quote a part of a sentence from a web-site :)

Yeah, I missed it, didn't register. BFD. DILLIGAF. Sorta like missing that it's filter rating is an absolute 22 microns. Oh, that's right, you missed that. Hahaha.

No problems thus far.  There have been a few write ups on the PurePower I'll look to find them.

One article => http://www.tarheelgreen.com/images/Bike_Works_Magazine.pdf

I choose to ignore the oil side of the article, but nice pix.

another about one of their filters => http://www.tarheelgreen.com/images/Hot_Rod_Magazine.pdf

Thanks FSG. I have read a few write up on it but I value in use opinions such as yours. I am sure the conditions down under put it to the test. It looks to me as tho the PurePower unit would be easier to clean as well since it has a bigger opening to access the interior of the screen. I do believe it will be the one I buy. I prefer the way it looks over the K&D design. As for the bit about it possibly lossening the base when removing the filter, I am sure a little blue will take care of that.

Thanks a lot.

Maybe the oil filters are like batteries. There's only a few manufactures that put all kinds of labels on their product.
Listen to the jingle the rumble and the roar.

So what is everyone going with here, Pure Power or K&P?

Tsani

I am going with the PurePower Unit. But I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
