Hello All -I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of "Bypass Oil Filter System; filters down to 1 micron -see at: http://www.amsoil.com/bypassfilters/vansise/index.aspx -OK, i know everything is a gimmicck to sell us stuff, but i do know that std. Evo filters are rated at around 30 microns, whereas the TC filters filter down to 10 microns. Total Parformance Eng'g sells their "Smart Pump", which allows use of the TC filter on an Evo. Anybody tried any of these systems. Thanks in advance for any comments -Hope this isn't just "Oh no,not another oil question" LOL

Hey Tom, put "oil filter" in the search box, top right corner. Click back on "forum" and do the search, this topic has been done to death and everything and more is already here.

I use the amz tc filters on my evo for 50,00 mi and have never had a problem. Not a good idea to run the evo filters on a tc yhough.

S&S states to not use anti drain back oil filters on the Evo style motors.K&N TC filters have anti drain back.

A lot of people use filters with anti drainback valves with no problems on Evo engines, Harley says that the TC oil filter can be used on Evos. I am going to try one on my next oil change just for the hell of it. :pop:

It takes pressure to move the rubber drainback in the filter. It bothers some Evo's and some it doesn't. An EVO's pressure system sends the oil to the filter after it goes through the engine so if the filter is a restriction it can lead to excess oil remaining in some EVO's leading to excess oil drip from the breathers. a lot depends on how good your oil pump or engine condition is. As for TC filters, have you cut one open and removed the media? I often wonder if any oil actually goes through the filter media or does it always bypass. You might understand what I am saying if you actually remove the media and check the denisty of it. I for one run the Evo filter on my 124 TC for 49,000 miles and going fine. No argueing on my part. Just do what you want to. Just providing the info for those that don't search.

Depending on the build and riding conditions, each engine can be different. The only way to know how well your oil & filter are doing is to have the used oil analyzed by an independent lab.

S&S  give a reason why?  evo bikes with filter mounted under bike ( my fxrt) yes . but newer up frt . i can't see any good reason after shut down to have oil running out of filter back into eng.

DresserDan

It is stated in their engine manuals.Dont know the reason I just figured they had a reason.I have tried the K&N twin cam filter on my S&S and it did blow back thru the air cleaner a lot more.

Yeah, but I figure Harley wants (1) to sell only one version of a filter--less inventory costs, and (2) to take as many Evos as possible off the road so they can hopefully sell the owner a new bike sooner.  Harley has nothing to gain by making your bike last longer.

Bottom line is that there are filters made for Evos and filters made for TC's.  Why not just match the filter to the application and not worry about it?
