All about aerodynamics. You need the wind either pushing down on your head or going over it. Windshields are the way to accomplish it.

I always have a baseball cap on. On one of my bikes, the windshield is tall enough to deflect the air over my head. On my other bike, I turn the hat around and wear it backwards while riding.

Put it on back wards, it will stay on!

Wear a short brimed hat & pull it down close to the top of your glasses. I wear one that almost looks like a welders cap.

Put yer helmet on over the cap......  :hyst:

Take some selfstick velcro install the hook side to the sides of your hats sweat band. It will grab a hold of your hair.

This reminds me of something so I'll bore you all with it.

Years ago my nephew kept losing his hat while riding horses in the show ring. Girls hold their western hats on with bobby pins but he was having none of that. Grandma had the idea to use double sided tape. Tears were involved getting that that hat off.

Either the hat goes on backwards or get a doo rag.  Lately I have seen lots of riders new to riding lid free pulling around and going back to pick up head accessories. Today a group of 8 pulled over in front of my house while one doubled back to pick up a hat.

If anyone gets hurt from not wearing a lid in this state it'll probably be from a pile up or a U turn caused by the loss of a $10 hat.

Hence the saying "If you've got a $10 head put a $10 hat on it".

I'll admit I just got back from a lid free run. I have no hair to speak of and forgot the ball cap, the doo rag, AND the sunscreen.

Damn!

As funny as that sounds, last year a group of ofopos met in Maggie Valley NC for a week. We hit a fair amount of rain and one rider was doing just that. He said it really helped in the rain.
I tried it and have to agree. Now I carry a soft ball cap just for wearing under my helmet in wet weather.

We have helmet laws in all states of Oz and I've just recently got a new Shark Evoline but I'm curious in what way did the cap help ?

IMO, hands down the best bang for the buck for a true convertible helmet with great wind noise attenuation and comfort.
I'm on my second one due to a little lite modification I did to it last Aug. :emsad:

It helps to keep the rain off our prescription glasses. When my glasses get wet, looking thru them is just as bad as looking over the top of them. I'm blind either way.

If your not going to wear a helmet...Why would you want to wear a hat while riding ?????

Dont laugh.  Try some small pieces of this attached to the inner head band of the hat:  http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lok-Lift-Rug-Gripper-For-All-Surfaces/2510682

You may be able to find a tube of the silicone rubber at any hardware store that may do the same thing--run some small beads along the inside of the headband, and it will grip.  Assuming you have a snug fit cap....if its real loose, go with the chinstrap idea.  lol

The silicone rubber is put in bicycling shorts to keep them from riding up the thigh.  Works great, grips well even with sweat.

My only other solution is to wear a helmet, but that is only MY preference.  Glad you have the choice!!!

The forward brim doesn't catch a lot of wind?

Just make sure you wear a really cheap ball cap; wouldn't want to bloody up a good one when you go down, LOL...
