Went to get a set of tires and I find out the AM41 MT90HB16 front and AM42 140/90HB16 Avon Venoms that I use are no longer available in Canada. I am told that I have to use the AM72 MT90B16 rear AM71 MT90B16 front Avon Cobra now. Has anyone used these on a 02 FLSTCI, I am wondering if they actually fit? If so are they any good? Man I hate change  :emoGroan:

They are still available, just drag specialties dropped them for some reason.

The new Cobra's are nice, but i cant comment on the mileage reports yet. My guess is not to great for wear but i have only done a few sets this year with no real mileage accumulation.

I have the Cobra's on my Fatbob 200/60/16R 79V & 150/80/16R 71V..They're a lot better than the stock knobbies that come on the Fatbob, the handling difference was like night and day for me. I think the wear is good but I'm used to big bore sport bikes where 5,000 was good for the rear, I have over that on this set now and still have a lot of tread to go. I'll be replacing them with the same when the time comes.

I'm gonna give these cobras a try, kind of addicted to the Avon tires. They don't last long on the rear but the Venoms had outstanding wet performance, your legs sure get wet though.  :bike: Thanks for the replies.

The Avon Venoms are no longer available in HD sizes. Cobras are replacing them. However - If ur bike uses 140/85 rear, u can use Cobras 140/90 in place. ur bike will set about 1/8" higher.

I can't seem to find any direct info online about the rubber compound, are the Cobras the same as the Venoms as far as the rubber compound goes?

I loved my Venoms, got over 15000 on the rear. Can't find 'em anymore, and the Cobra's have been on back order for 2 weeks. Couldn't wait any longer, an hour ago had CommII's put on.

Aww man...no more vemons thats crap. I just installed a set of vemon whitewalls on my heritage and really like them. Well I got some time before I havta go on another tire mission. I didn't like the dunlops for tire performance and now have to re-research to find a equal to the vemons..like I said before Thats Crap

I've got a couple of friends that I order and install Venoms for and they will be highly disappointed when I can't get them. The last set took a little searching to find someone who had them in stock.

I got a sneaky suspicion you're really gonna like those Commander II's. Maybe even more than the Venoms.

Nooter, I hope so. MC tires very expensive for the short life, so finding a tire that gives a balance of good mileage, and wet handling abilities is important to me. The Venoms did that along with a wider profile. Gonna a put some easy miles on the Comm II, then give 'em a workout. I'll report back.

The Avon Venoms [MT90/16 and the 130/140 section for the rear, also available with whitewalls are still being produced here in the UK, i bought a set last month. Have you tried Ebay?
Peace...those brief moments in history when everyone stands around reloading....

I was at the Avon tent at Laconia last week, they told me the Venoms are being replace by the Cobra's. There is still a lot of stock out there for the Venoms but I am sure they will go fast. I loke the tread pattern of the Cobra and would love to try them but I want to continue to run a 150/80/16 and the Cobra is only available in a V rated 150 which is advertised to measure 157mm (same as the V rated Venom), they don't come in a 150/80/16 77H. No way I can get a 157 on the back of my 02 FLHTC. I really wanted to try the Cobra but also like the Commander, guess I'll have to go the Commander route or buy up one last Venom. They did have several at Laconia.

Klammer,

Did you convert your belt over to the 2004 touring model thinner width belt?  If so, take you belt guard off and it'll fit.  I ran a 160mm with my belt guard off and the 1 1/8" belt.

Bagger,

I did convert to the 04 1 1/8 belt. The problem I would have is I'm currently running a 2006 rear fender that is slightly thicker on the sides. I think it would be ok w/o the lower guard and my 01 fender that I ran for 10 years before having to remove it to repair the frenched led tail light.

I'm going to shoot you a PM later this week when I get some time, I have a few questions for you about your motor set up as yours and mine are very similar, JM20's etc.

Avon replaced Venom tires for 2008 and older Harley sizes with the new Cobra this spring. For the newer Harleys we already have been producing the Cobra for several years.

We still make some sizes of Venom, mostly for metric bikes like Honda Shadow and Yamaha Roadstar, etc. You can still the list of tires we still make in Venom on the products tab of our website.

For your bike it would be the new Cobra.

Subject: Domestic Sales Question: Avon Venom

Does Avon still manufacture Venom tires, or are the Cobras the replacement for the Venoms?  If so, when was manufacturing of the Venoms ceased?

Various motorcycle forum members state that Avon has stopped manufacturing the Venoms and Cobra are now the replacement tire for the
Venom.

I see online tire companies still offer for sale Venom tires, but they must be older stock.

I have a 2002 Harley Road King.

GLFLSTCI02

I should have my new set of Cobras this week. It will be interesting to compare them to the Venoms.
