my ignition switch is shorting out.turn the switch to on position, crackle, pop,no go.pulled the 4 little mounting screws from the dash,it starts.
my question,on continuity test, should there be continuity between top left wiring lug, and mounting base ?
if anyone has good ignition switch, and continuity tester give it a try,and post back?thanks a bunch, dan
if it hurts real bad, cost more than its worth, youve learned a good lesson.

dan winright,
Don't have that type switch any longer, but maybe the attached "94 wiring diagram will help.

I converted that pos screw type switch to a 3-lug newer type.  Here's the wiring diagram I used.

Here's the conversion diagram I used to go to the 3-spade switch.

nice try evo,my bike is a 91 softtail.dont think the wiring is the same.as I said before,I removed the mounting screws from ignition, stuck a rag between switch and dash,
and rode it home.

well,I tore the damn thing apart.one of the contacts was bent and shorting against the body of the switch.tweaked it back into shape, reassembled, works good now.

Does make you wonder how that happened, no?

Good you found the problem, Dan.  The wiring on those 6 screw switches up to the change to the 3-lug are all very similar, some wires are at different screws.  If you need to convert at some point in the future, the 3- tab drawing will work, if you change the wire locations appropriate to the model year.  The 3 tabs are Ignition, Battery and Accessories.
