I will polish them on the old style tensioners. I make sure the chain is marked on the outside(for proper orientation) then I use scotchbrite pads to smooth them off by hand.Does not tak a whole lot of work, just make sure to clean thoroughly after.

Upgrade your chains with the conversion cams and roller chain.

Chain polishing was only for 06 and older - pre roller chains. It was frowned on by many because if you didnt get ALL of the polishing compound out of the chain it'd do more harm.

I ended up replacing both tensioners at 33000klms, outside was 50% gone, inside only 20%.
I polished the chains with an 8" buffing wheel an rouge, then cleaned them with varsol, then acetone, dipping, rinsing between each high pressure blow off with air. Drop the chain in 20-50 for an hour.
Next inspection at 69000klms showed 5-10% wear, so problem fixed from my point of view. I would still have a look every 25-30000 anyway (just me). Engine went from stock to 93 hp to 125hp( supercharged) over this time period with 510 lift cams,  FWIW  Buffalo

By the time the set needs to be replaced with a new set it should be smooth enough to get 2-3 times the wear out of your second set of tensioners.

As long as there has been absolutely no metal-to-metal contact, I agree.
