its time for some new plug wires, the old ones had the insulation breaking down.  just wondering if there is a difference in plug wires for points and electric.

If you are running points, you need the copper core wires. If you have electronics, you can use either the copper core or suppression type wires. If you run the suppression type wires with points, they will work for a short while but you may have constant problems from your points and condenser.  I work on a 50 Pan about twice a year, it only sees about 200 miles a year, but he just had to have these really pretty blue sparkplug wires, about 10 years ago, that have been giving him hell. (or better said giving ME hell). For the first 8 years of me working on this bike, every time I saw it I had to replace the points and condenser. Last time I had it in the shop I took his pretty sparkplug wires and threw them in the trash, replaced them with new (also pretty blue) copper core wires, and have not had to mess with his ignition since. Now all I do is clean his carb, clean his clutch, change his oil and adjust his chains. Been a much more reliable bike!
