I don't watch much TV, but Paul Sr., ... choppers....??? I thought that "Potty mouth" was waaaaay over...... you know what I see when I see some clown on a chopper?   A clown on a chopper....!  I don't see or consider them a serious motorcyclists, rider... but that's just my humble honest opinion... wouldn't want to offend anyone out there...  :bike:  I know one thing, riding with a pack of bikes  :sheep: that can't handle 4 "Potty mouth" is the last place I want my ass!  Get outta my way, I'm riding, not posing!  :sheep:

Choppers I respect.  Most of the clowns I see ride custom bikes.  To me, there is a huge difference.

My comment was just on an old school entended chopper.  Love it or hate it, that is fine.  I grew up drooling over these old school machines that I could have never afforded back then.

How did it become a 'hate' thread on the Snr.   I truly do not understand the 'venom' that comes out on someone you truly do not know at all.  We all have our faults and some may not be to the extent of Snr.  The hate is strong.

Yeah... you got posers riding every kind of bike out there.  And you got serious motorcyclists/riders that ride every kind of bike out there.  It's not the bike that makes you a poser/serious-motorcyclist/serious-rider, it's what you do with it.

Except the only thing you can do with a chopper is pose on it... that's the difference.  :chop:  As for Sr.,, before he opened his big fat mouth (he's about 5'-6" in stature), he was floating bad credit and bouncing checks around NY State, he owned a metal company, did half ass work... owed everybody and thier borther $....then someone stuck a camera in his face instead of up his @ss and wala...  :emoGroan:  His bikes are junk BTW.

This says it all for me. Couldn't have said it better myself. Their motorcycles look unsafe to me and they can't be street legal. They wouldn't be capable of being registered here in California. Say what you will, equipment regulations are designed to make vehicles safer for the most part.

5'6", huh. Bet the rest of him is short too.  :hyst:

Yeah. You sure couldn't ride a chopper coast to coast or anything. I wish I'd known that before I did it last year. I never would have done it if I'd had that bit of wisdom.

I've a buddy in AZ who poses 10-15k a year on his chopper.  He's only 5'8" or so, you guys probably wouldn't like him.

I know that guy Ray. And he's 5'5" on a good day.  :hyst:

It's not what you ride.  It's that you ride.

Ultra,  RE:  Your question about a parts bike.

I know a builder here in Florida that puts bikes together from parts.  I asked the same question as you.  Since the frame, engine and transmission all come with a V.I.N. and M.S.O from their respective manufacturers, the bike can be titled.  One would take the M.S.O.'s to the DMV to obtain the title.  It will state the bike is "Assembled from Parts" since it's not a H-D or other brand. It's probably similar in other states.   The "Assembled" part would also make it hard to insure and value at a later date.

Yes, but it must still be inspected to check for roadworthiness as well as the MSO numbers of the parts. If it passes, it will have a "Special Construction" title.

That means:

Turn signals
Brake , stop and tail lights.
Full time headlight,
Mufflers
Horn
Working brakes
Etc.

You made my point, get on an interstate and ride in a stright line, that sounds real exilerating... hey, seriously cudos for the cross country trip, but once you get off the highway, you know, when your running 10mph off the ramp because you can't lean the bike, then what...?  Choppers don't handle, that's why I'd never own one, motorcyclist, a.k.a "riders", those of us who cruise along the windy valleys and hills and moutains, on and off the throttle, leaning hard into turns, would be frustrated and bored stiff on one those bar hoppers... you can drive an old beat up 70's Corvette coast to coast and actually think it's a decent car... haha...   :smilep:  I hope you have a "real" bike in your garage for actual ridin'... :scoot:

I didn't ride the freeways.  All backroads.  You don't know what the hell you are talking about when it comes to choppers!  They handle just fine if they are setup right.  My favorite road to ride around here is State Route 88 from Apache Junction past Tortilla Flat.  It's some of the most curvy road you'll find.  Here is a video from taken from my chopper back in June 2009

Apache Trail Ride - 20-June-2009 (HD)

Here is another one from Feb last year...

You said yourself you never owned one.  So quite talking like you know anything about it.

Absolutely true. I used to ride with a guy that had a chopper and he rode with some of the fastest guys I know, that with his wife on the back. He had the heal of his boots ground off from taking the corners that fast. TweekmyTwin will tell you, he was crazy as hell to watch from behind but he could keep up.

NETacomaFatboy

Sigh...  I just posted to say "nice old School bike".   I would think the majority of owners with over stretched choppers have other bikes as daily riders.  Some of these bikes are built as a fun bike for a ride or two & for display.  I find nothing wrong with that.  In my garage, is a 1975 Honda 400F.  It was my daily rider when I was 21.  Now, I would not consider it for a long trip.

To each their own.  Kudos to Coyote for a cool bike to play with.  After all, the majority of our bikes are 'toys'.

See, if you and I were as smart as hd06myway we never would have tried something so foolish as actually riding our bikes.  We would have just stayed home and polished them.  I'm glad I'm not as smart as he is.  But I'm not gonna drink his  :koolaid:  or some of those smarts might rub off on me.

Well, the challenge has been made and the Win goes to CraigArizona85248.
When I first saw your bike sitting there idling getting ready for a ride I though"man thats a sweet bike with some serious pride in ownership and character"
Then when he took of it was wow this is going to be great.
Sure enough, some local backroads both pavement and hardpan too.
That guy sure has guts to be off the beaten path on such a classic ride, then I realize just cause the pavement stops the journey isnt over.
NETacomaFatboy, I missed your point and apologize for my comments detracting from who and what your original post meant to you. I will have to do some research on "Sugar Bear" and his contribution to the bike ridding community.
We interrupt your regularly scheduled read and bring you this,

OK OK, Arizona got me with the vid... there are some real chopper riders/handling bikes out there... (though I still think Sr., and the sheep that followed him on the ride are queer...) but Arizona, and others who rode alone or with a buddy all that way, on a chopper no less... I salute you...  I use to have people asking me all the time how me (& the ex. on back) rode all that way "on a Softail" ... if you love ridin, and I don't doubt you guys do... you can ride a 350 Honda cross country if that's all you had.  A friend of mine says his chopped Pan (actually a bobber setup) high apes, is more comfortable for him than his Road King, just fits his skeleton better...

Now for those TV chopper builders.... and their "celebrity" rides... (barf!)  :emoGroan:

CraigArizona85248

hd06myway, my feelings on the "TV Chopper Building" stuff are not that different from yours.  That's not what I'm into at all.  To me, choppers are garage built by the guys who ride them.  Not something you buy into. You got my back all riled up when you threw all choppers into that bucket.  As I said in an earlier post.. there are real riders and posers riding all kinds of bikes.  I'm glad I could post up some vids that showed it's not all black and white.

Ray!  That was a fun day taking the Apache Trail up towards Roosevelt Lake.  Fish Creek Hill is crazy!  There are a few photos here:

Those Fish Creek photos look a lot like a certain road in Maui, HI except your road isn't paved and is a lot wider. Oh, and no rain. :bike:
Listen to the jingle the rumble and the roar.
