Is it requirered to reset the Timing after replacing? It Revs higher and the Idle is Lower! Just asking before i try it! Thanks

I didn't on my Evo road king - it was just a straight swap. I'd be very surprised indeed if you would need to alter the ignition timing at all as it was designed by HD for your bike, would made the install very inconvenient if you did have to. I'm sure Major or someone else will have the pdf of the install instructions which will give that detail. Don't forget to list the year and model of bike it is goign on 'cause that helps to make sure u get the right advice.
cheers

BTW - does anyone out there have the part number for the SE ignition module for an '89 XLH? Might put a search for one NOS as I have my stock one in my sporty.
If you can't fix it with a hammer and a roll of Duck tape then you're in trouble

Cool! you will soon know if there's anything else which needs fiddling with - listen out for coughs thro the carby, backfiring, flat spots on the throttle response and so on, but i can't see thas likely to happen. Guess you already have a decent (ie not the one it came with) air cleaner and pipes, and have rejetted the carb?

32420-87B fits 1986-1993 XL 883cc and 1200cc Evolution engines.  8000rpm rev limit.

That's the one I am running in my '93.  For your '89 XLH you will (probably) also need an adapter wiring harness (32408-90).  Once you have that adapter wiring harness there may be other SE modules (with more realistic rev limits, e.g. 6800rpm) that may work as well, modules listed as fits newer vintage bikes.

Cycle Shacks are very good performing pipes so don't throw them away...
If you are going to dyno it, bring both sets and try them both.

I Never throw out bike parts!! That's just unheard of!! hahahaha I'll put on the V&Hs see how I like um, got um for $80. so... Just gunna set the idle afterwards an run her! Create an account on http://photobucket.com, upload pictures there and post links to them here.  photobucket.com makes it easy once the pic is uploaded there, allowing an easy copy of the [img] tag from their site.

Thanks frisco!! I'll give it a shot!!

If you have the pics uploaded in a photobucket album, then go to the album at photobucket.com, hover with the mouse over the image, a few things will pop up just below the image, click in the field next to "IMG code" - that will copy the IMG code that is needed in your HTT post.
Then, when you are typing a message to post here, either CTRL-v or right-click and Paste and that IMG code into your message.
If you want a 2nd pic in your post, go back to the photobucket album, copy the IMG code for the 2nd image, and paste that into your message, etc.

RayRay12

I'm gunna try to figure it out! Thanks Man! You've been a big help!! We'll see what happens!

Thanks Frisco. Not really keen on an 8000rpm rev limit - seems like a whole lot of heartache if I get a bit happy with the throttle... so I might look at a later model one. Had a look for the loom conversion, and it is really pricey even NOS, so I'll keep an eye out for a 'bargain' as there's no rush.
cheers
