Hello everyone.
Just got a 1998 Dyna Wide Glide and only rode it 44 Kms before Winter set in here in northern Alberta, Canada.
I've done lots of cleaning and changed all fluids.  Also did lots of reading about this bike and some concerns come to light.  This bike has 77000 Kms (47850 miles) and seems to run good, handle good and still looks good.  I've read that since the engine is rubber mounted and the tranny is solid mounted this can lead to problems. I've always rode a 1997 FLH that is all rubber mounted since tranny and engine are bolted to each other.
Any one ever heard of issues with Dyna engine and tranny not being bolted together??
I got this bike since it weights about 120 Lbs. less that my 1997 FLH but I also want a bike that is as dependable and my 1997 FLH.  Please share your opinions or concerns about the 1998 Dyna.  Thanks

same set up as your 1997 flh the engine and tranny aren't bolted together on than one either, that didn't happen till twin cams
If it don`t scare you, It ain`t fast enough.

Both EVOs and TCs are bolted together, engine and trans, and both are rubber mounted drive lines. FLH/FXR 3 point and FXD 2 point.

Power or speed shifts reportedly allowed the differently mounted and longer Dyna inner primary case to flex and crack. I put a Carlinni (sp) Torque arm on my Dyna and never had a problem. The Torque arm bolts to the right side eng. and trans.  Kind of pricey, but it has held up for nearly 20 yrs. with only some chrome pitting.
I'm starting to believe my body is gonna outlast my mind.

Thanks JB
I just went to have a look and YES the engine is bolted to the tranny.  I guess what I read about the tranny being bolted solid to the frame was not correct.  Got to take some stuff that's out there on the internet with a grain of salt.  I guess the 98 wide glide might be just as good a bike as the 97 FLH.  That one has been real good to me. now has 91000KM (56500) miles and no real problems.  Thanks again.  This site has lots of good info.
