A buddy of mine if fixin to have a spare Twinkie 95 inch touring motor laying around (I just ordered a new S&S 124 for him). I'm thinkin of dropping it into rigid bobber frame along with a 5 speed I got laying around and an open belt primary. I know I can put an after market ignition on this thing, but has anyone done a kick only carbed Twinkie? We already have wheels, sheetmetal and most other parts laying around, will only have to order a carb, ignition, kicker, and a frame with a front end.

Don't know about your TC, but, I got a 93" low compression, good overlap cam, and it's STILL a bear to kick over and get started!
Guess my diet took the weight outta the kicker leg!

So nobodies done a kickstart Twinkie? I know I can build the bike, that's not a problem. I'm just curious about the ability to start the motor with a kicker....

I have heard of it done, but not sure of the particulars. I will do a little searching if no one else has any info.

Yeah thanks. I know about the ignition conversion cover (almost tempting to put a set of point in there!) There are also plug n play ignitions on the market for custom applications with twincam motors. I'm a little curious how kicking will be with the 195-200 psi compression of the twinkie though. Right now it's no real issue, we'll find out on monday, when we call S&S back about the details of the 124 engine. I told my friend/customer, that I'll put the S&S in and tune it for free since my build on this engine just isn't doing what we were hoping for. We got all the power we wanted but something is tapping/knocking/ticking that I just can't find. The noise comes and goes and we just cannot find it. I've been inside this motor more times than I can count and still have no idea what is not right (not saying that something is wrong, just something is not right, if that makes any sense at all)
He's been wanting an all dolled up motor with the diamond cut fins, polished cases, chrome covers and all the power he could ever need so S&S is the natural choice for that.
With the TC95, I will tear it down, check every bearing and race, maybe put in a new crank assy and drop it into a frame.

Easy, can't see any reason it wouldn't work. Be nice to see a TC with minimal wiring.

look in the March AI mag I think a guy put one in his bobber I was reading it today but don't remember everything.

Easy,
I saw where you posted that this motor has a SnS reed along with a Feuling pump.  I don't think those are supposed to be used together; creates problems.  Might want to check into it.

easyricer

I will check into that. Yesterday, was the first time I had heard that. Any Ideas what the problems might be or cause?

I can tell you first hand 205+ psi cold in my 93" shovel will hang my 185 pounds in mid air and leave me there while she rolls her eyes at me in disappointment. It's kind of emasculating.

I'm just saying I'm a wuss and with your proposed project I'd be looking at comp releases.

Thinkin that yer gonna hafta buy jeans w/a much bigger right leg soon! :hyst:

I'm not positive but think it creates a sumping problem.  I run a Feuling pump & plate and the reed warning might even have been mentioned when I bought them.  However I don't have those sheets readily available.  I did a search and found some info in a thread titled 'New oil pump' from back in 2009.  There is probably more.

Good luck.

LOL Mark, that is pretty funny. After the rebuild on Betsie, I was thinking I'm gonna need to eat more potatoes! That first start off the kicker had my audience laughing pretty hard. Before the rebuild I sat in the seat and started her, now I gotta stand beside her and jump. At 5'8" and 175lbs (and most of my chest slid down to my belt now), if she don't pop off in the first 3 kicks, I gotta take a break. (thank God she usually starts on the first).
The Pan, is quite a bit more cantankerous, if she don't fire on that first kick, best to walk away and try in a few minutes. (the next 2 or 3 kicks will hurt like hell!) Gotta get that manual spark advance right or she'll teach you to fly.
This is gonna be a fun project, if I get to do it. I'm not scared of high compression kick start bikes, they will teach you technique!

LOL.....and whatever doesn't kill you outright makes you stronger....er maybe.

Back awhile, late 60's the XLCH guys often had right foot boots with no heal on them.
Forget to retard the spark / mag and it will get you attention. Lot of limping around as I recall.

PC_Hater

easy,
when I were nobbut a lad and a 120lb weakling at that I used to ride a 650cc single.
That had a 'half-compression' lever, so a modern equivalent would be S&S easy start cams, and it had a valve lifter, I would fit manual ACRs and call it good. I used to wind up big lads by kick-starting their bikes when they had to resort to the electric start.

go for it, and remember to drop the compression ratio if all else fails...

My wife didn't get a cane, but we made a couple of payments on the Doc's boat.  Back when this happened, doctors hadn't discovered garage jewelery yet, so I know it wasn't a Harley payment we made.

One of the best T shirts I've ever seen was at the Wetzel MC party a few years back. I was hobbling around on a cane after an Achilles surgery, and saw the shirt.
