Anyone tell me if rear shocks from a newer bagger would fit my '88?  I'm wondering if low profile shocks from a newer bike woul fit my 1988 FLTC.  I don't see a difference except for the part number.  Anyone?  Thanks.

Look for some -97c take offs with low miles.
The -09 shocks don't seem to work very well with earlier bikes.

Bluharley,   I have 2009 shocks on my 97 FLHTC. They work great for me!

I have '09 shocks on our '90 Ultra for about 2 years, fortunately the shocks came with the newer connectors and hoses. I needed to change one hose that was too short but other than that everything was OK. I probably could have used the old connectors & hoses but the new ones are much nicer to use.

After one season the low profile shocks ride terrible. Get the stock length and use a lowering kit. Much better ride.

I tried a lowing kit some years ago.  The shock angle made the shocks push against my bags, the seals broke on both shocks and I had to replace them.  I was talking to my local indie not long ago, and he suggested the kit.  I told him of my experience, and he said he had never heard of it before, and something wasn't right.  There isn't many ways for them to go on.  Any thoughts?  I'm thinking he never put them on an 88 FLTC before.  I had to push those bags on against the shocks, bowing the shocks.
