Hi all

I'm in Australia and I've imported a CVO Fat Bob from Connecticut.
The speedo has been replaced with a metric speedo to comply with our Transport laws but the odometer still reads mph.  :emsad:
I assume this problem is also encountered with sales of bikes across the Canadian border .
Can the Digital Tech be used to recalibrate the odometer without affecting the speedo calibration?

Thanks

HV

You replaced it with a Metric Unit and it still reads MPH ?

We have our bikes 'complied' which includes a metric speedo conversion
ie.new instrument face which shows kph and reads kph
but my odometer is still clocking mph!

So they just replace the face on the instrument ? Why not just install a kph clock? I can't see the digital technician being able to change the miles meter to kph because the speedo will then be wrong.

I believe the the speedo unit was replaced, not just the face.
I assume the kph speedo and the mph speedo are both calibrated appropriately so that the correct speed is shown on each for the same number of pulses from the speed sensor.

The odometer still shows numbers corresponding to distance covered in miles and that is a bit of a nuisance since I use it to manage fuel consumption , distance to next town etc.

The DT has no option to change anything in a Speedo Re KPH or MPH ... we change US bikes to CDN all the time by installing a KPH Speedo ..these are calibrated at HD to read in KPH on the odometer ..if yours reads MPH but has KM on the face ..Id say someone just switched the Face ..We can not order just a face and never remove the face to do anything in a Speedo ...the Speedo sensors for MPH and KPH are all the same ..and never need to be changed

The speedo unit has been replaced.
Originally 67371-09 (mph) , now 67372-09 (kph)
My speed on the speedo is given in kph
The odometer showing distance travelled is in mph
When you change US bikes to CDN what do you do with the odometer?

There is different speedo for England , 67386-09 , which can show kph or mph and can be selected by function switch according to diagnostic manual.
Only just found this , maybe I need to play in there a bit to change the odometer only.

When we change them we order directly from HD a new KM Speedo with the Original Milage converted to KM loaded to the new odometer by HD... it then reads KM on the Speedo and odometer ....the old MPH speedo is returned to the owner to save as proof of Milage on the bike when he bought it ...we can not switch them from Miles to KM or KM to Miles...Ive never seen a speedo with KM on the Speedo and Miles on the Odometer

When I bought the bike it had 6002 miles showing on the odometer on a mph speedo.
When the metric speedo was fitted the odometer showed 6002 and I assumed it had been set at 6002 km and would continue to register changes in km.
Not the case!
If I travel 80 km the odometer reading increases by 50 ???

HV

Sure sounds like they just changed the speedo face..  :nix:

:agree:   The speedos that can be changed back and forth between MPH/KPH using the Trip Reset button change both the display and the odometer.

Thats the next step

I would have assumed only the England models with option for mph/kph would allow the odometer to be changed from mph/kph and kph/mph

98fxstc

Tried to toggle between mph/kph on odometer display as for dual scale speedometers
No go
So I have a mph speedo with a metric face ?

I rang the shop that did the compliance work for me and asked about the odometer
Some can be changed , some can't be changed !
They rang the shop that did the speedo for them
Mine can be changed
If I send it back they will change it for me

No the UK models have MPH in large digits and KPH in small on the same face, but it's legal to just have MPH. My Buell came with a KPH speedo and the next day they mailed me a UK cluster that has both on it, so now I have two and a low mileage bike
