I just picked up an 86 FXRS Lowrider with 4800 miles on it that had been in a warehouse for the last 20 or so years. I've had a Buell and RoadKing in the past and never had a problem finding parts and accessories for it but this seems it may be different. J&P doesn't even list a lowrider, they list the FXRS as a SuperGlide.. most places dont' list it at all.. The DMV had a problem looking it up and I gave them the VIN.. My question is, should the parts be compatible between all FXR's of the same year? Should the parts be compatible between FXRS's of the same year. I was 10 when this bike was built and I'm just getting started replacing some thing..so I don't know a lot about them.

Click on "Motorcycle" under the Bar & Shield logo

and go from there...
Every day, I'm one day closer...  WTF!  I'm not near 70 yrs. old!

The differences between FXR's are mostly subtle frame and brake differences.  A book I have shows the '86 Super Glide having chain drive, Low Rider was belt.
I'm starting to believe my body is gonna outlast my mind.

Congrats on that find.  I would love to find a low mileage FXR someday when I have some extra $

cool bike, we just rebuilt a 87 fxr here, it was traded in a couple of years ago and the owner decided to keep it for himself. i would love to get my hands on a shovelhead FXR 5sp rubber mount shovel!! but they are tough to come by, and when i do find one they are nowhere near original... someday tho...

I bought a new fxrs first year evo 1984 i think. Great bike!

pretty sure all 86 FXR were belt drive ,  no problem getting parts . your better off going to a local bike shop (independent) for parts where they have Drag Specalties ,Midwest etc. catalogs
