Called Smith Bros today, they only carry 32 tpi nuts and Harley doesn't have nuts in a bag so I guess I am going to Ace Hadware tomorrow to make some.

I have an extra one floating around, if you want pm your address and I will send you one.

Sure glad I am using the .030 over perfect fit pushrods...that way I don't have to worry about busting my nuts.

Unless you're running really high lift cams I don't get the effort put into grinding or machining the flats on a standard 3/8 inch nut. Before I put everything together I put a standard nut in a stock tube and there's plenty of room. I know pushrods move back and forth at the rocker end but at the lifter end they sit in the lifter cup which doesn't move. After a few hundred miles I took both front tubes and rods out and inspected to make sure they weren't touching. No sign of contact at all with Andrews 26 cams.

Thanks for the offer, but i am going to replace all four of them.

I finally got a chance last night to go back into the cam chest to search for the broken pieces and replace the push rod nuts.  I ended up going to ACE and buying 4 new jam nuts and had to grind them down from 9/16" to 1/2".  When I removed the pushrods and inspected the screamin eagle jam nuts, I found two other nuts with a cracks in them.  So I am glad I took it apart, because that could of been bad if one of those were to break lose on me while riding. Tonight I am going to readjust the pushrods and hopefully Friday go for a ride.  I am going to try 3 turns and see how the gatermans do. Thanks for everyones help.

Customer supplied a set of SE pushrods and 1 jam nut was missing right in the kit. Local dealer couldn't help and the kit had been bought down south.....went to Lowes and purchased grade 8 5/16" nuts and then drilled and tapped to 3/8"-24. Seems to have worked out well.

how hard was it to drill and tap that grade 8 nut? Good idea.
I guess we ended up with the same end results as I did buying the larger grade 8 nuts and grinding the flats down to the same size as the cheap SE weak nut.
All's I know is...the ones I made aren't going to crack or break.

No probs drilling and tapping at all....drill press and lotsa cutting fluid. Keep your nut's alignment in the drill press vice after drilling and change out the drill bit for the tap and start the first few threads turning the chuck by hand in order to keep things centered, then free up the tap from the chuck and finish the rest by hand. Fresh tap and drill bit helps too. I believe the drill bit was a letter 'Q' if I recall......

Got everything back together last night and took it for a ride.  First minute was loud, once lifters pumped up and got really quiet.  I swapped from woods 8 to tmans 600 cam, all I can say is wow.  Bike is as quiet as stock, exactly what I was looking for.  I am going to post the differences once i get a few miles on it.  But with the woods 8 tune it pulls harder, my ccp went from 184 to 197.  Thanks again for everyones help.
