Tire Price Question.......

Just helped a buddy get a new Dunlop 402 installed on the rear of his Heritage. The Tire ALONE, cost $290.95, the Tube, $36.95, and the Rim band, I don't recall, but probably at least $12.00. All, PLUS Tax, (13%) This would have been Plus installation and Balance, which we done ourselves.
Question is, I just received an ad for Bike Bandit . com, and they List that tire for $137.84! (A Sale Price by the way....)
HOW can they sell them at Such a Low Price, are they OLD or is there Something else up with them? Oh, He Bought his New tire here, off an Indy by the Way. (In Canada, Less Than a Mile from the U.S. of A.)
IF there is Nothing Strange about these Bike Bandit tires, I'm going to be hard pressed to buy one here in the Fall when mine Should be due!
Personally, I Have NEVER bought a Tire anywhere except the Indy I HAD been Dealing with. (He's Gone Now, so I'm kind of at the mercy of this latest guy....)
Just Curious about Why The BIG Difference in Price that's all. Thanks in advance for any constructive replies.

If you compare the exact tire from the same manufacturer at Canadian dealer retail and from an on-line seller in the US, the price can be double in Canada.  Why? WTF knows.  I can buy 2 tires for my bike (2004 FXSTS) for $200 to $225 less in the US then have them shipped for free to the postal outlet just across the border.  Yes, I would love to support my local dealer or indy but that price difference is just too freakin' much. To my knowledge, there are no motorcycle tires manufactured in Canada so there shouldn't be any protective duties.  Dealers here will simply tell you that it costs more to do business in Canada.

Thanks for the reply Blazin. I was just curious about whether or not they might "Dump" Older tires or something. The Price here is Ridiculous! Like I had said, in over 50 Years of riding Various Bikes, I've NEVER bought a Tire from anyone except an Indy. The One I HAD been Using for the last 20 PLUS years, packed it in last year or Maybe the year before??, and due to a couple of Health issues, I've Not been riding much since. He told me what he Paid, I called B.S.! He Showed me the damn Bill, and I damn near Dropped!
Pretty Limited to Indies around here anymore, Most of the Good Ones have passed over the last 5 or so years.......
Thanks again Blazin' Appreciate Your Reply Sir!

These days I buy my tires through Jake Wilson.com ,one of the lowest prices I can find.I have NO ideas about what someone up north might have to pay,but it might be worth looking into.

State side, Jake wilson has the 402, white wall for $165, front $140. The local HD dealer wanted a bit more than that. I remember a few years back I could get a rear 402 for about $130 and the dealer wanted close to $175.

I know prices on many items in Canada are out af sight, but nearly $300 for a 402 seems a bit excessive to me. As for the quality of the tires I have no doubt they are the same tire you can buy any where, same as the dealer. As for ordering on line, make sure you buy some where that sells a bunch of tires and the tire you get will be new. I order from Jake Wilson andthe manufacture date on the tire has never been more that a few weeks old.
I am an adult?? When did that happen, and how do I make it stop?!

That's Got to be Worth looking in to, Still a Pretty Fair Price! Thanks for the Help.
Got ahead of myself on This reply. Thanks for the Info PoorUB. Seems to me, I MIGHT Have heard of this place before, MAYBE on the Old HTT perhaps??
I guess what really caught my eye on Bike Bandit, was The Price alone. I Have no idea what Shipping does and anything else for that Matter. Still, For That Kind of Dough Ray Me, I Do Have a Couple of Great Brothers over there that I Visit Frequently, and They are Always, Hey, if you need it, order and ship it here. I Do That for Pretty much anything I buy from our Brothers on This Group!
Funny thing about though, I've NEVER even Thought about buying a tire over there! LOLOL THAT Looks like it WILL Change though. THAT might change too though, IF I get the Royal Screwing at Customs! LOL
THANKS for All The Help People, Much Appreciate this.

That was about the Best Thing on the Skin he Bought Saturday. It was a December Tire, as opposed to Some I HAVE seen on Tire racks, YEARS old, NOT Months, YEARS! Which is Kind of Why I was asking about Bike Bandit in the First Place. I Had NO idea Tires were So MUCH less expensive over there. (Notice I Didn't say, "Cheap"! LOLOL)
Thanks for the Info Breeze. Damn near Miller time I see, so Time to Lock up, and RELAX for a couple of Hours. Thanks again Mate!

If my neighborhood guy is too busy, I have taken everything to cycle gear in Bedford..unless they cant do it while I wait. dont want to make 2 trips..

WOW! I just went and had a Peak there before I go in, Not Bad, ESPECIALLY the FREE SHIPPING! about $50.00 more than The other People I looked at today, BUT No Border B.S. That's Worth at Least Half of the Fifty. I'd rather save the Trips across for VISITING, Not business.
Thanks for that Link dynabagger, Cool!
You know what though, If ya Kinda Think about it, it almost brings it in Line with Normal U.S. Pricing. Nothing wrong with that eh!
Will check Back later in case there's more. THANKS AGAIN, EVERYBODY!

I can't speak for your indy, your dealer, or my indy for that matter.  I have always been against carrying in a set of tires I got off the net and asking him to mount them.  Just always felt more like taking 2 eggs and a slice of bacon into a diner and asking them to cook them for you.  I figure my indy has to eat, and has to STAND BEHIND any problems with the tire if he buys them and does the mount and balance.  Anything short of a nail or burnouts that is a problem with the tire is on him.  Well, this year I fell into a deal too sweet to pass up on tires.  We had a table set up ( free space) for our club at the local Honda dealer and I got talking to the owner about my need for some tires for the Harley. He was having his spring sale, and beat pricing on both Avon Cobra's and Michelin Commander II's, the two tires I was looking at getting.  Quoted me  $156 or so for the 140 x 90 16 rear and $136 for the MT X 90 16 front for the Avons .  Keep in mind, that included PA tax but no shipping.  One tire was about 5 months old, the other 8 weeks old.  Oh, Avon also was running ( and still is until the end of June) the $40 rebate if you buy a pair of the Cobras.  Now, IF ( and that's a big if), I have a problem with the tire other than balance, I drive 1/2 mile down the road to the Honda dealer.  I can live with that.  My Indy was good with it too because he got the mount & balance, and did them during the Progressive Suspension front cartridge upgrade and my annual motorcycle inspection.  Everybody got a drink from the well, and all the money stayed in town for the most part (tire warehouse is local too so they got a sip of the well water too).  Sure, my indy did not get the money for the sale of the tires, but considering what I did pay him for everything else, I'm not having any trouble sleeping at night.

I purchase the last ones I bought from Jake Wilson.  Somehow I accidently put the wrong addy in my order...Jake Wilson not only made good for my mistake they also overnight shipped the replacement order at NO cost.

So yea I'll be recommending them & making future purchases from Jake Wilson

Just maybe me, but I always felt if you gotta ask for the "deal" I will just buy from the guy giving the "deal" to begin with. If Denis Kirk's advertised price was less ,then great, otherwise it is Jake wilson for my tires. Also JW has done me well and it would take more than $1 form me to switch.

just figured I would check, Dennis kirk has the 402 rear for about $9 more than JW plus $5 shipping where JW will ship for free.

I got this from Rossmeyer's last week.
