Trying to sell my 90 flstc to by a newer touring model say like 06-08 Road King .. No serious lookers so I go and see what the local dealer will give me on trade in on a 09 FLHR.. Well,, I would take in the low 7's off the street for mine. They offered me 6500 trade in.. The offer is buying the bike at MSRP with cruise and abs brakes out the door 19,170..So my bike and 12,670..Here is the my question.. Does this sound like a good deal?? Is there a little dickering room here?? Like maybe accessories?? I need a back rest, maybe through something like that in the deal or should I wait until mid season and see if there are other incentives??? My 90 runs great and looks even better but in this market buyers are getting scarce for this old of a bike.. I just want something newer for me and my wife to do some cruising around on.

It dosen't hurt to make a counter offer and walk away once...
I would e mail all dealers in 200 mile radius and see what they can do...
Ride it...Break it...Fix it...Repeat...

once you get on that 09 and dont look back you will know for sure it was a good deal!!

I just traded my 05 RK for an 09 Streetglide. I gave them $6200 with tax and a 5 year tag. The SG has ABS and cruise.
I tried 3 different dealers in the area. Two of the dealer would not go below $7400.

You can shop other dealers, and see what they give you.  Still, I would counter a lower figure than what you actually want to pay--that is negotiation.  Be reasonable and dont offer them like 15K for their bike, and demand 8K for yours.  I would think that for them to give you another 500 off is reasonable.

As posted here before, the dealers are very reluctant to give a bike discount.  So, ask for something of value of about 1K or 1.5K...like motorclothes, parts/accesssories, lifetime service, lifetime tires, etc.  Something along that line.  The dealers seem to be more willing to do that, especially the service or tire deal...that doesnt cost them much up front wehn the bike goes out the door.

Think about this, the dealers, like most all companies, are experiencing cash flow reductions from fewer customers buying.  So, for them to give up soemthign in the future that doesnt cost them anything right now (service, tires, etc), is much more desireable and if i were them, i would jump on it....anything to make that bike sale!  lol

Good luck, you will be very happy with the RK.  I would definitely go for a 09 over a previous year.

Stay on 'em. Stealer in Texas would throw in up to 1G in accessories, if they think it would close the deal. Did it on 09 SG. Then still got 10% off anything else at sale.

I like the idea of extended service or discount accessories. I agree we are about 500 bucks apart.. Momma needs a back rest that's about 350 maybe we could have them throw in a fluid change or two.. Thanks for the input

It`s a good start, shop around a little more, offer a little lower, then maybe settle on their price if they will throw in a gift card, service etc. Keep in mind if you have state sales tax of say 7%,that should be $455 credit on the purchase. Near your $7000 out right.
