I resemble this remark.  Last year went from a '01FLHT 95" with 21g cams to an '11 FLHTP pure stock.  I quickly got a handle on 6th gear usage.  In the flatlands a 60 mph & > at cruise was OK.  I live right on the break between the bottoms and the Ozark foothills.  A bit later a guy at the plant bought a new '12 RK.  He was asking me about how to ride it (he lives in the foothills).  I recommended he not use 6th unless he was in the flats and traveling.  This is his 2nd bike, his first HD.  He rode his yamahondasaki to Daytona, traded,  and then trailered the new bike home.  He was short on experience and not generally too bright.  I felt it was good advice for him.

RKC doesn't have a tach, think newbies can guess RPMs?

3/4 of newbies don't even know what an "rpm" is.........

Fix for the 6th gear thing??  Put a good set of cams in it.
My '11 RGU/103 wouldn't get out of it's own way in 6th gear at 60mph(2500 rpm), I put a set of 204 cams in it and
it pulls like a horse at 2500rpm. I rarely have to run in in 5th gear now.

Eh, most of the guys I see don't shift higher than 2500 RPM anyway - they hit third gear in the middle of an intersection.  :hyst:

Maybe they should just put automatics in...
