After some idle time while I recovered from back surgery (3 months) my 06 RK started showing the check engine and battery light off and on on short rides I took. On later rides It seamed to go away then came right back.

the run down of symptoms; on starting check engine light comes on for a few seconds then goes out. After a short time a mile or two the check engine light and battery light comes on and stays on. I checked the codes and got brought up PO562 which indicates low battery voltage. I did replace the battery that tested OK but close to being shot.

This morning I road out from the house to test it out. Same ck engine light after start went out after 5sec. and got a little further down the road about 6 mi. before the chek eng and bat lite came on again to stay. when I cot back to the house after about 10 miles or so the battery that was fully charged at the start was down to 12.34 volts.
any help appreciated

Check battery voltage with the engine running above idle  2,000 RPM or so.  Should be showing about 13-14 volts if it's getting a charge.  Also check all battery cable connections including the starter and ground.

Have you had to charge the battery to get the bike started?

When my Heritage did that, the stator and regulator were done. It also took out my battery, The stator was grounded, and was charging 19 volts. All done under warranty. :emoGroan:

OK I tried the battery test with motor running from high idle to about 3500 gauge stayed @ 12.4.

Engine off battery reads 12.8

Have not had to charge battery to start but have been keeping on tender most all the time.

That's a good indication that there is something wrong with the charging system....stator/regulator/associated wiring.

When I had the 'check engine light and battery light comes on and stays on' with my Sporty 48, it was the voltage regulator.
