Starter engage and slips

Is it possible that a starter clutch engage for one, two or Three engine turns, and then slip? -86, 4 sp., 883

Possible.........maybe a broken tooth or two on the gear?  :nix:

Sounds like it.
If it isn't that.......well, then that could be something you DO NOT want to hear...........

Does it try to fire up in those two to three turns? Could have had a couple of bursts and make the bendix think she's fired up and retract. It spins freely as long as you hold the button in?

The primary Chain didn't turn either  :smile:

Changed the starter clutch and all is OK.
