rbabos, thanks for the explanation on checking and adjusting the chain tension. A very clear explanation. I'm sure a lot of people who are concerned about a tight primary chain don't account for the spring in the tensioner taking up 1/2".

Don't forget the the shoe is spring loaded. Many miss this very important part of the design and go ape"Potty mouth" when they see the straight top chain. If you start with 1/4 free play there will be an extra 1/2 from the shoe not noticed unless you push on the chain. This spring is to not allow the chain to get rigid as the primary heats up.
Non bias'd shoes as in manual adjusters need the 5/8-7/8 to allow room for the chain to tighten as the primary heats up.
Those are my specs from endless pissing around with it. Even with 3/16 free play the shoe spring never ran out of range in my testing. I've not played with Hayden so cannot comment on their specs. Hope this sorta explains it.

Thanks Ron. Count me included on not knowing any better. Mine was 3/8" with auto tensioner and I thought that was way too tight. Already ordered the M6 so will be giving that a go. I'll keep the auto unit on the shelf. Should I decide to sell it or put it back in it's still in great shape little to no wear on the shoe after 20k.
