The remote control operates the Garmin 2610 GPS but the touch screen does not work.  I used web updater to upload the latest Garmin firm ware to no avail.

Has anyone had this happen?  Could you fix it or was the unit toast?

TIA

Not sure how on the 2610 but you might try a "master reset".  On my Streetpilot you have to hold down in the lower right corner as you push the power button on.

As Big Block said, or go straight to Garmin.

Are you sure you're not looking at the backside of it, turn it around.  :hyst:
I'm sorry, I had to say that.  :embarrassed:

My 2610 did the same thing last summer nothing I tried would get it to work.

Bought one on ebay without any accessories for $10.00, got lucky it looks and works like brand new.
You only need to be 10% smarter than the thing your working on.

You know a buddy of mine had his touch screen just dump like that too.  He called Garmin, and they repaired it for free.

Any way to enter the long/lat coordinates on those units to find a location?

Hi ho, hi ho, off to Garmin it goes.

Man, have these older discontinued units tripled in price or what?  I paid about $200 for mine when it was discontinued.

Hold two buttons down and turn on the unit.  Then hold a couple of other buttons down and turn it on.  Try holding three buttons down and turn it on.  You get the idea.  The unit will go through diagnostics including a LSD influenced psychadelic light show.  I guess it is a color test.  My diagnostic test said counterclockwise gyro failed.  Also I could not calibrate the screen.  Some folks reported on the net that a repeated running of the diagnostic eventually restored their touchscreen capability.  It did not restore my touchscreen capability.
