Got a Limited. Used a car EZ PASS this summer and just placed it in the windshield bag. Now Pennsylvania offers a motorcycle one which is waterproof. Sent off for one and when it arrives its slightly larger than the car one. They recommend center of windshield for the motorcycle transponder. Of course thing is white, square, with MC on one side and PA log on other, damm ugly and who wants to see it. So A Google search finds an old thread on a different Harley site with all kinds of places...tour pack and saddle bag, Velcro to helmet, fork legs, painted flat black, and other places...
Don't want it stolen, so locked inside is a good idea, don't want it to blow off, so Velcro isn't enough and its ugly so where to hide the thing?

Where are you guys running them especially without a windshield?

On vacation last year, I used one.
Rammount made a mount that clamped to the bars.
When we stopped I just popped it out of the mount and tossed it in the trunk.

Have a pass for few years,  use to carry it in the jacket.  now I don't even take it with me, they take picture of the license plate when I go thru the tolls and charge my account.  all my  buddies that ride with me do the same thing.   :nix:

I have the original car size ez pass it's just held to the bars with two zip ties, I've never worried about it being stolen but to take it off just slide the ties to the sides and off it comes been on that way for years with no issues.

I'm not leaving til I have a good time

Did you know you get a lower toll rate with a motorcycle transponder? Not much but maybe enough to buy a bottle of water when you add up a couple of trips.

The one I have is about 3" long by 1.5" wide. I have it stuck to the windshield on my softie on left side about even with the handle bar. Pretty much unnoticeable. I took their little 3M Velcro strips off and put on a piece of the industrial strength stuff across the entire back because I had lost one due to it being jarred loose on a pothole hit. It's on there now. I have tried to remove it and it takes a good amount of effort. SOme of my buddies carry it in their shirt pocket, or stuck to the inside of their saddlebag or scoot boot.

I stuck mine to the underside of the front inside of the left saddlebag lid.

Works most of the time, when it doesn't, they use my tag info.  It's an Oklahoma tag, also have a Kansas one, in the other saddlebag.

In our area you ain't going thru unless you crash thru, if it doesn't get the signal the bar doesn't lift.
I have a small windshield bag for the EZ pass tag, my ins and reg.

As JohnCA says, here you just ride without it, they shoot a pic of your plate and bill your account as long as you have the bike registered to you pass.
Thing is with the tour pack and the lay down plate they don't see the plate so I think it may be a free pass at times.
Found that out when I took off the tour pack and forgot to add my new personalized plate. Next time I crossed I got a ticket in the mail. Called them up and they took care of it no charge.
But here is CA we don't have the drop down gates that some have to deal with.

Same deal in Canada, they take a picture. I never got a bill, guess the 2" set back tour pack hides the plate.

HAS ANYONE TRIED PUTTING ONE ON THE INSIDE OF A ROAD GLIDE FAIRING?

pt38

I have an 03 ultra.  Removed outer fairing and placed transponder on top of radio.  Used some 200 mph duct tape to hold it in place.  Placed an appropriate sized piece of foam rubber over to help stabilize it and replaced outer fairing.
It's been in there for 3 or 4 years now.  Works great.

In Ontario, if you split the lanes on the on ramp, close to 1/2 of the time they don't seem to get a pic of the plate#.

runamuck

I try to avoid toll roads here in texas but when I cant, have not got a bill..I'm guessing that plate is not visible to the cameras. here they use our tax money to build toll roads or change free roads over to tolls then sell the rights off to some company in spain but use the cash for other stuff so we taxpayers still owe for building them in the first place.

I leave mine in the top pocket of my leather coat, works for me everytime

I just take mine from the windshield in the car to the second set of 3M Dual Lock strips in the upper left side of the tour pack .  So far, I've never not seen the green light come on going through a toll booth when I get on or off the highway.  If they have not been read, maybe they just can't get a photo of my plate due to the placement of the tour pack over the plate.

FWIW, Some states claim an improperly mounted transponder can result in a fine or being pulled over if the pass is not detected.

PA insists that I should NOT use my auto EZ-Pass with my bike.  Since my wife and I ride our own bikes, going by PA's requirements I would be required to have 4 EZ-passes and have them dip into my bank account to load each of them with $75 (or what ever todays rule calls for) .  They would not even record the MC plate numbers on the phone because I did not have MC transponders.  I asked what the difference was.  They said the MC ones are waterproof.  I said it would be in my tour pack.  They said it had to be on my windshield.  I said my wife's bike does not have a windshield ( lie).  They said then her bike could not use an EZ-Pass.  I called back an hour later and went through the same drill with a different person.  I asked the difference between a regular EZ-pass and a car EZ-Pass.  They said select roads and bridges gave a lower rate to M/C's.  I said is there any other difference, like being waterproofed?  They said no.  I said I don't care about the lower rate.  They also insisted I could not use an auto Pass on a M/C.  So, one day I went on line and Good Golly Miss Molly, the on-line system let me enter MY bike plate number for MY car EZ-Pass and my wife's bike plate number for Her car EZ-Pass.  They also wanted color make and model for each vehicle so I was honest and the system accepted them, so as far as I'm concerned, I'm legal.

Bakon

Also in PA- $75 each pass when you have a M/C transponder is correct. Using a car one is allowed- did it all last year through all of New England.
M/C one is different shape- its larger!
Going to try tour pack idea-see if I get the green light.
Buddy told me about them photo for the plate if it isn't read, but my luck it will be a crossing gate that blocks the road.

THANKS pt38, I'VE BEEN HESITANT ABOUT TRYING IT DUE TO THE TIME INVOLVED IF IT DID'NT WORK. AS AN ADDED NOTE IN NEW JERSEY THEY DON'T CARE WHICH TRANSPONDER GOES IN WHICH CAR/TRUCK/MOTORCYCLE AS LONG AS THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME NUMBER OF AXLES.

Rags722

Bakon,
In PA at least, the Toll tape is free if you call them and say from putting it on and off the windshield for security the thing won't hold anymore, they send you replacement toll tape.  Not a lot, but over time you can build up a fair sized collection of the stuff.

I believe Rags is talking about the plastic 'velcro'. It's 3M Dual Lock and if you don't want the free stuff from EZ Pass, you can buy it at Staples office stores.
Listen to the jingle the rumble and the roar.

rkrcpa

I mounted my transponder to the inside of the outer fairing (Batwing) and haven't had any problems.

Ah but they do. I ran into a problem with this issue when I lost the one for the bike (pothole) and used the one from my truck. I won't give me the discount for the ACE or bridges.

EZ pass in NYC the transponder is a must due to the gates. All my vehicles are registered if I don't have a transponder no big deal the toll is paid no fines.

Tsasni, WHAT BRIDGES DO THEY GIVE A DISCOUNT ON? THE ONLY TWO I USE ARE THE COMMADORE AND WALT, AND THEY PIN ME FOR FIVE EVERY TIME. OR IS THIS JUST FOR USING A PASS THAT YOU GET A DISCOUNT?
