Excuse my ignorance...........but, what are you measuring with that? I'm guessing the piston to head clearance? Nice work on the finishing of it by the way.

Looks nice, but what are you using to torque the cylinder down?

PVC pipe (cut up) and washers with the head bolts............

Squish.......... (Formula),....... (Piston in the hole / or out of the hole) + head gasket = squish.

Nice job.  Does it need the mag base, or does a set screw hold it in?

Ray, John Sachs's section.

thanks Brian.
I've never checked the homemade tool section out before
I seen where John Sachs made one of these tranny nut sockets. I made one back in 2008 for my bike.
It's not as purdy as John's...but it works great. I basically did the same thing he did. I cut a socket in half and got some black iron gas pipe and had it welded to both ends. It's got used quit a lot. One of my most borrowed tools all the time from the locals that like to wrench on their bikes.

Rite now the magnet is holding it on, I'm thinking about drilling out a hole and tapping it so I can screw the post in....    Has anybody ever built a tool to check crankshaft run out? if so can you post some photos and maybe a little how too..... The "check run out tool" is next on my list of homemade tools and projects.

Duffy if you have a cam bearing installation fixture, crank run out is easy.

I took some 1/8" flat stock plate steel and drilled holes in it to mount it across the cam cover area above the dowel holes. I used a cam cover gasket to mark the holes on the steel where they needed to be drilled for the bolts.
I bolt it on and use the magnetic base for the dial indicator like Brian did.
It works great.

Only thing to be careful is. Make sure your hole doesn't line up with the oil hole in pinion shaft.

What's up turbo haven't seen ya around the forum....... Hope all is well. ...... What do you do if the piston is out of the hole with that gauge?

I see, if it's out of the hole you measure off the cylinder and if it's in the hole you measure off the piston......

Looks like Evo head bolt spacing, for four. And they line up with the base studs.
